The tang of blood was thick in the air, all copper and metallic. It hung low and assaulted my nostrils. My nature was going wild within me, urging me to go.
I had left her for moments, barely enough time to run back to Cody's house and see the purpose of his mindlink for a meeting. Usually I followed my mate home and back, never letting her waver from my sights. These woods were no place for a human. No matter how much she had pissed me off. That meeting was the first and only exception, it was my Alpha's dire call.
And it nearly cost me everything.
