"How can I help y-"
"Did you hear, did you hear?" The eager nags sounded like a girl scout cheerful after selling all their cookies, except that it came from a man. His physicality could remind you of a little girl though, all giddied up and his fingers playing with his pony-tail.
"..What?" A sharp response was shot back from an annoyed man in a purple suit, Aaron Burr, picking up a folder from his desk as his eyes lazily scanned through a few documents as if to seem important.
"Did you hear about Captain Lee?" The annoyance in the man's response didn't shake this one's excitement.
"Lord, Hamilton, just spill it.."
"Lee clipped his crew, including Laurens, out 4 G's from a recent hit."
Finally, Aaron looked up from his reading material and down at the excited Alexander, finally making eye contact. "And?" He breathed out with a sigh.
Alexander Hamilton, was a newly made man but was also ever so comfortable around his seniors, broke out a large grin as he spoke his next words, "Laurens pulled a gun on him. Next thing you know, 'Bang!'" He mimed the gunshot with his own hands, faking a stutter in his steps as if the invisible bullet had pushed him back.
"So," Another sigh followed the word from Aaron, "I suppose the book is open for a new Capo position." He had simply stated the obvious, but boy did that excite Alex even more.
"Burr, you don't understand, this could be my shot at greatness! If I become Capo, I can work up to the administration. Of course, there is competition, I'm sure that the others-" Alexander's serious yet hopeful ramble almost made Aaron laugh, which stopped Alex from talking when he noticed.
Alexander, a part of the administration? Talk about dreaming big... After successfully stifling his laughter, he set the folder in his hands back down on his desk, moving behind it and taking a seat in his chair. They were in his office, after all. "Alexander," He started, trying to sound more personal with the use of a first name, "I've worked in this family quite a bit longer than you, and I've barely become relevant enough to have a small office. Isn't it a bit greedy for a recently made man to go for Capo right away? I wouldn't even consider applying."
Alex seemed to look a little uneasy when Aaron addressed him by name, straightening his posture to seem more professional for once. "All respects due, Burr, but I know I can achieve my goal. Just need to take a shot." With that, he walked towards the door, flashing Aaron a confident smile before reaching to open the door.
"Alexander," Aaron repeated his name, more forcefully this time. Alex froze momentarily but didn't bother turning back around. "Talk less-"
His usual motto was interrupted by an abrasive exclamation from the man at the door who hurriedly spun around, "Smile more. Yes, I know, Burr," Even though they hadn't known each other longer than a few months, Alex was fully aware of the saying since it was repeated to him over and over again. He also repeated Aaron's surname with the equal force that he had, "If that's your morality, you belong on the sidelines. Me? I belong in Father Washington's administration."
Alexander hadn't realised that he'd raised his voice until he finished talking. Burr gave him a stare, his eyes narrowing at the slightest as his jaw clenched momentarily. "Excuse me, sir."
The door shut loudly after Alex's exit.
"Fuck you, Hamilton," Aaron muttered to himself bitterly, letting out another sigh.
