She was walking alone in the middle of the forest with only her dog to keep her company. She loved walks. Especially long off-trail ones with her dog, Emma. It was quite and overgrown, the trees were like towers for birds which were the kings. The foliage was damp and everlasting. The path was nowhere to be seen, just walking along was an adventure.
She was climbing over a old knocked over tree when there was a sharp tug on Emma's pink dog lead and she lost her grip. The lead flew off following wherever Emma was running of to.
"Emma?!" She called
There was no answer. Not a movement in the bushes or any sign Emma was there.
She walked for a bit, thinking about the way Emma probably went. She was such a obedient dog, it was unlike her to run of like that.
"EMMA!" she shouted.
By this time, night had started to creep in and the forest was getting dark. All the trees looked the same and the shadows stretched as the sun set in the crimson sky. She was just about to give up when it caught her eye. It was Emma's pink lead.
She ran to it but immediately something wasn't right. The pink and black strap was clipped onto her ripped collar was soaked with a sticky red liquid. Blood. She couldn't stop looking now. Emma was close.
She walked until her feet felt like they would drop off and the night sky was glittered with stars. The moon was her only source of light, she had tripped multiple times and scratched herself on branches.
She started getting cold and hungry but most of all, paranoid. She had this feeling that someone was watching her, she hated it.
But she was to determined to find Emma.
That's when she saw it. A black shadow move in the darkness and ran. She took off as fast as her tired legs could carry her, following the trail of wreckage it left.
She came to an opening and saw a black mass on the leaf covered floor. Her heart dropped as she walked closer. It was Emma's mangled body, lying in the dirt.
Kneeling down beside the almost unrecognisable body, hot,salty tears ran down her freezing face. She couldn't believe it! Her only friend was dead.
Her tears stung her cheeks and she was so tired. But she couldn't sleep of course, she had to get home first. Only then did she realise she was lost.
She lay on the floor for a bit to regain her strength, then slowly got to her feet. She picked
up Emma's body and wrapped it in her jacket and started to walk. She turned and walked to the left but all of the sudden she slipped on a stone and fell down a steep endless slope. She went tumbling down and caught her arms and coat on all the thick brambles. She came to a stop in a bog of mud and giddiness washed over her. All of a sudden, she saw a dark figure standing over her, holding something that glinted in the moonlight. Then there was a stab of pain in her forehead and everything when black.
The next day.
A chef entered his kitchen and quickly glanced at the menu. Today's special was beef casserole with dumplings. To bad the restaurant ran out of beef. It was very poor and going through a slight phase of bankruptcy. Ingredients had become expensive and the restaurant couldn't keep up. Luckily, humans cost nothing and basically taste the same. Great! thought the chef, fresh meat from last night will make a perfect casserole!
He went back to his car and pulled the black bag out of the car. He pulled out the body of the girl he found in the forest yesterday. Sliced her fine porcelain skin into even meat chunks
and poured it into the hot gravy. Beautiful! He thought.
"Order up!" He shouted through the kitchen.
A waiter collected the perfected dish and walked into the dining area where Mrs. Harris, the old lady who was a frequent visitor to the bankrupt restaurant, was sitting.
"Oh, Marvellous!" She exclaimed, "I love the beef casserole!"
"Of course, ma'am," said the waiter, "However, may I ask, where is your daughter?"
"Oh, you know her, always walking with her dog Emma, probably camping out there. Didn't come back last night."
"Of course, I understand," replied the waiter, "Bon appetite!" He said, and walked back into the kitchen, as she was eating her daughter.
