He was interested when he first spotted her walking in the bookstore. He was first infatuated when he spotted her checking out medical and paleontology books.

She wore a grey light weighted blouse with a denim jacket. Her hair was so completely shiny and curly that he couldn't help picturing himself running his hands through it.

She wore gloves.

Not winter gloves. It was 75 degrees in a New York spring.

She wore flimsy driver gloves.

He watched her as she took the bag of books from off the counter and walk to the exit.

He watched she stopped to reach in her purse and pulled out tissue before using it to open the door handle.

He watched with intrigue and before he knew it his feet were carrying him towards her.

"Wait! What are you going?" He ignored the girl from his political relations class called out to him.

She had only offered to help him find the class required book and study because she wanted him to ask her out.

He was never interested.

So he ran.

Faster than he's ever have. He's not the running type.

The warm sun hits his face and eyes but he ignores as he chases after the girl with the denim jack.

She walks across the busy street as he pushes people out of his way along with mumbles profusely 'sorry'.

He crosses the street but a large shoulder bumps into him causing him to drop his books.

As the bends to pick up his books, people around him kick away absentmindedly.

"Shit." He mumbles trying to pick everything up.

After gathering all of his books and tucking them away in his backpack.

Looking up to continue towards the girl he sees she's no longer there.

He sees she's gone.

I've lost her

His heart constricts and he gulps at the lost of what could've been.

"The Communist Manifesto."

He turns to the he's been searching for as she's looks down at the book the he must've dropped.

"This belongs to you." She extends her arm out handing him the book.

She looks at him and smiles bigger than she ever has.

He looks at her and the only thing he sees besides her smile is possibility.

The possibility of an us

"Rachel." He grins.

"Levi."
