Dear Jay... (Book 1)

Ch. 5

Carlos tossed and turned all night. He couldn't sleep knowing that Jay was sleeping in the bed right next to him and he had no idea how Carlos felt about him. Jay was softly snoring next to him. Carlos turned over and rubbed Jay's back, he was happy that Jay had come out to him, but he was still wondering why he couldn't come out to Jay. Jay's phone started ringing. Carlos quickly turned over and pretended to be asleep.
"Hey Carlos," Jay said shaking Carlos 'awake'.
"Yea?" Carlos rolled over pretending to wake up. Seeing Jay standing up over him with a goofy sleepy smile on his face.
"Hey, I know you were asleep, but the doctor said you shouldn't sleep too much with a concussion, so you need to be awake for about an hour or so. Wanna chat for a bit?" Jay said laying down right next to Carlos.
"Sure, that actually works out because there's something I want to tell you," Carlos said. He was nervous as hell.
"You know you can tell me anything!" Jay said nudging Carlos with his shoulder. "You and Jane finally kiss???" He teased.
"No... actually we broke up," Carlos said.
"What why?" Jay said looking confused.
"That's what I'm trying to tell you Jay... We broke up because I didn't like her... or any girls at this school," Carlos said hoping he was going to get it.
"Oh... so you like someone from the island?" Jay asked. Is this guy serious?
"No Jay...." Carlos said. He took a deep breath, "Jay... I'm gay."
"Oh!" Jay said looking a little surprised. "Well I am too! So I guess this is kinda cool! I love that you told me!" Carlos was so happy that he finally got at least one secret off his chest. "Now we gotta find you some for the dance next week!" Jay said. Carlos's heart dropped. I don't want someone, I want you.
"Ok, yea sounds good," Carlos lied.
"Hey maybe you can go with Ezra! He wants to go, but I really don't want to. Or you know we can all go? If that's something you wanna do?" Jay said, sounding way more excited than Carlos was.
"Sure that sounds fun. I would rather go with you guys than someone I don't know. The girls are going to right?" Carlos asked. Like I have to ask, Evie lives for these things and Mal is probably going because Ben is.
"Of course! You think Evie would miss a dance? And Ben has to go, so Mal is going," Jay said.
"Well Jay, I'm getting kinda tired, I think its time we got some sleep," Carlos said rolling over and facing away from Jay.
"Ok buddy, Sleep tight, and if you need anything wake me up ok?" Jay said leaning in really close to Carlos's face. Oh go oh god oh god!
"O-ok," Carlos said, closing his eyes trying to go to sleep as fast as possible. Sleep came quickly to Carlos... and so did the nightmare...

*Dream sequence*
Carlos was standing waist deep in the crystal blue ocean, watching the mermaids swim and the dolphins show off their moves. He was having an amazing time. He saw something moving towards the surface and he started to get worried. Just then Jay bursts out of the water scaring the crap out Carlos.
"Not funny asshole!" Carlos said pushing Jay back into the water.
"Oh come on, it was a little funny!" Jay said after he resurfaced. He looked so hot wearing nothing but a tight pair of red speedos with a small cobra on the side. His butt looked so good! Carlos couldn't help but wrap his arms around him and pull him into a very passionate kiss.
"I love you so much Carlos," Jay said running his hand through Carlos's white hair. He ran his other hand down his back and cupped his cute little butt. Carlos was also wearing a speedo but this one was white with black spots all over it.
"I love you too Jay! I cannot tell you how long I have waited to hear you say that!" Carlos said smiling and tucking a loose lock of hair behind Jay's ear. "Now come on lets go eat, I brought food."
They walked out of the water and onto the beach, they both grabbed a towel and laid down on a big towel with a picnic basket on it. Fully stocked with food like strawberries and chocolate (their favorite food ever since they got off the island).
"I cant imagine being anywhere but here with you Carlos," Jay said feeding Carlos a strawberry. Carlos was so happy he looked up to the sky and saw some clouds rolling in.
"Jay?" Carlos looked nervous and looked over to see that Jay was gone. He stood up in a panic. Looking around the beach for Jay. He had no idea where he was, then he looked out to the sea and saw Jay standing out on a rock looking back at the beach and laughing.
"Come on Carlos! The view is amazing out here!" Jay shouted back to the beach. Carlos wasn't the best swimmer, since they never got in the water when they lived on the island because of the magical barrier. Carlos ran to the water and started swimming like crazy, not doing well. He kept trying to swim out to Jay, when thunder clapped so loud, he froze. In that moment he saw something swimming towards Jay.
"Jay look out!" Carlos yelled. He saw a merman rise out of the water. He had a red hair, tan skin, and a long green tail. Once he was out of the water his tail disappeared and he had legs. He stood up and kissed Jay, Carlos couldn't believe what he was seeing. They both looked out and saw Carlos struggling to get the rock at the storm grew stronger and stronger. The surf picked and the waves were rolling in fast and hard. Carlos and the other guy laughed at Carlos was drug under the water.
Deeper and deeper into the sea he sank.
"JAY!" Carlos tried to yell as he lungs filled with salt water! JAY!!

"Carlos! Carlos wake up!" Jay was standing over Carlos trying to wake him up.
"JAY!" Carlos yelled as he jolted awake.
"Hey buddy, its ok! It's ok! I'm right here!" Jay said rubbing Carlos's back, "That must've been a pretty bad nightmare dude, what happened?"
"I-I don't.. ummm... r-remember," Carlos lied. I remember all of it and it was horrible.
"Hey, what's going on?" Evie said, turning over and rubbing her eyes.
"What time is it?" Mal asked as she sat up, looking a little annoyed that she was woken up. They both looked at Carlos, who was looking very hurt and he had tears in his eyes. "Jay, why don't we go find the doctor or Fairy Godmother? Come on" Mal said jumping up and pulling Jay out of the room. Evie walked over to the bed and sat down next to Carlos who was now in full tears. He wrapped his arms around her and started sobbing.
"What happened Los?" Evie said sounding scared.
"I had a horrible nightmare E," Carlos said through the sobs. "Me and Jay were on the beach, having and an amazing date, then this storm showed up and so did this hot merman, and, and...." Carlos was crying so hard he couldn't even finish the story. Evie rubbed Carlos's back and tried to soothe him, but it wasn't really working.
"Carlos, I'm so sorry. But its ok, it was just a nightmare," She said, hoping it would calm him down.
"No, its was real. I came out to Jay," Carlos said.
"Really?! What did he say?" Evie asked, trying to sound happy for Carlos.
"He wanted to find me a date for the dance next week," Carlos said, sounding more depressed than Evie has ever heard him.
"Oh no Los," Evie said pulling him in to the hug tighter."I'm so sorry. He's a jerk if he cant see what an amazing catch you are!"
"But I love him E," Carlos said, looking at Evie through the tears, "I cant just forget him, believe me I tried. If it was that easy I would have forgot about him a long time ago!"
"I know Los, I wish there was something I could do," Evie said, starting to tear up herself. It killed her that she couldn't help.
"I'm such a fucking idiot. Thinking Jay could ever love me," Carlos said, rubbing his wrist. Evie noticed this and grabbed his wrist and pulled his gloves off. There were a couple of small faint scars.
"Carlos, what the hell is this?!" Evie said, looking both angry and worried at the same time.
"It was from before. Back on the island, when I couldn't do anything about my feelings. I couldn't talk to my mom and you guys were so into your own lives, it was just easier" Carlos said, covering his wrist with his hand.
"Carlos, look at me," Evie said sternly. Carlos looked up at her, "Don't you dare ever think about doing this again! OK?! Talk to me, cuddle with Dude, anything! OK?!" She said.
"I don't want to do it again! But I just feel so depressed," Carlos said. He really didn't want to cut again, but he didn't know what else to do.
"Here this might help a little," Evie said grabbing her mirror. "Mirror Mirror in my hand, who's the kindest, nicest and smartest person in the land?" The mirror shimmered, and she held it out to Carlos. He looked up and saw himself, laughing and running around with Dude in the fields. He couldn't help but smile.
"Thank you Evie, I love you," He said hugging her again.
"I love you too Los," She said smiling and hugging him back.
