First Lunch, Then Maybe Romance

Jake's POV

I walked away from Kendra and joined my cousin Alan and his idiot friends. Not that I wanted to hang with them but being new I didn't exactly have a swarm of friends. Just a bunch of sluts trying to hook up with me. And Kendra,now she was a girl worth spending my time with. She was of medium height and  had captivating, intelligent green eyes that contrasted perfectly with long dark blond hair and sexily crooked glasses that she pushed up her nose nervously when I looked at her. She had an aura of innocence that made me want to protect her. Which was crazy considering that I had only known her name for about ten minutes. I guess love at first sight is real,huh. "Hey Jake," the sound of my cousin's voice removed me from my thoughts. "What do you want Alan", I asked in annoyance. "Stop gazing you're embarrassing us",he replied. Number one reason why I hate my dimwitted cousin. He cares too much about what others think. I walked away from him and went to the cafeteria where I grabbed a sandwich and unaware of the stares of the whole cafeteria I sat next to Kendra,who started blushing like crazy. Her friend Lisa literally was staring at me with her mouth open.

"What r u doing here?"asked Lisa bluntly. "Um, it's a free country and I don't see kendra complaining about me being here".

"I mean why aren't u sitting with your dumb cousin Alan."

"Like I said it's a free country, and I don't want to sit with Alan he's a jerk. So I decided to sit with with my only friend so far in this school which happened to be kendra".

"Well if u value Kendra's life, I suggest u move because every girl in the cafeteria has been sending deathly glares at her and I don't want my best friend to die so soon."

"Sorry Alpha, but I ain't leaving. Don't u worry I'll protect her."

"As if," Lisa scoffed, "Because Queen Bee Mia is looking at kendra like wolf ready to drag her prey to her den."

I realized that kendra hadn't been taking part in our conversation. She just sat their staring at us as though she couldn't believe this was happening. That I was here bantering with her best friend who by the way was pretty fun to talk to.

"Hey cupcake, I'm beginning to think that you like staring at people."

"I'm still shocked that you came to sit here of all places."

"Oh he'll be leaving soon enough",came the voice of Jake's cousin Alan who was standing next to none other than the Queen Bee of the school Mia and neither one looked happy.

"What are you doing here", asked Alan.

"What do you think genius? I'm in the cafeteria so obviously I'm eating lunch,".

"I mean what are you doing here at this table. Get your but up and come sit with me and my friends."

"First of all my dear cousin Alan you don't own me. Secondly Al, I can sit where I want. And thirdly I'm afraid if I sit at your table, you and your friends stupidity will rub off on me. I don't want to be a disappointment to my mother like you."

The tension in the room was so thick you cold cut it with a knife as the two cousins stared each other off. Slowly Alan turned and went back to his table with the Queen Bitch Mia trotting behind him like a puppy.

"So where were we," Jake turned back to a shocked kendra and Lisa as though nothing had happened.

"I so hate my life right now," Kendra said dramatically. "We enjoyed our lack of social life you know. Did u have to make us the target of every girl in school. Even though my face isn't that pretty,I still enjoy it."

"Sometimes I don't understand a word you're saying, kendra." Lisa said laughing. "It's not the end of your life. Just the end of living invisibly in school."

"What r u two talking about", Jake interrupted nervously.

"Just the fact that you increased the amount of teasing we have to experience from occasionally to everyday, increased our chances of beating some idiot who thinks that as nerds we don't know how to fight to ten fold and increased the rumors about us from a few to the whole school talking about us," Lisa said dramatically.

"What did I do?" Jake asked in confusion.

"U sat next to kendra instead of your cousin Alan the asshole and just made a huge scene! I'm very sorry for you kendra,because it looks like you have to start training with Jim again. These girls won't let you off as easily as before."

"Wait what happened before and who is Jim"asked Jake.

"Jim Aldridge was my personal trainer," kendra said quickly interrupting Lisa who was about to speak again and glaring at her. "And what happened last year is not exactly a decent topic for a lunch conversation."

Fourth Period Bell Rings.

"Well I still want to know" Jake said stubbornly as they packed up their stuff.

"I'll tell you later if you really want to know or better yet ask your cousin Alan first" Kendra replied.

"Um,Bye" they said  to each other quietly as they went to their different classes,"See you later".

And then they were off with questions about each other swimming in their minds to be answered later.
