1978 - The year I meet Kati.
It was the beginning of my Senior year. It had been eight long and painful years. I hated going to school more and more every day. I had decided to sit in the back of the classroom during homeroom. I had no one to talk to so I sat staring out the window most of the hour. Near the end, the door opened and a girl walked in. She made her way to the teacher's desk and they exchanged a few words.
The teacher stood up and escorted the girl to the center of the room. I finally got a good look at her. She had long, curly, brown hair that fell across her shoulders and down her back. When she smiled, it lit up the entire room. Her dark eyes shined when she spoke.
"Hi, my name is Kati Maxwell and I'm your new classmate."
There was an available seat was next to me. I watched her as she walked towards me and stopped next to the desk.
"Is it okay if I sit here?"
I nodded my head towards the desk and proceeded to look back out the window. I heard her plop her bag on the floor and shuffle into the seat.
"So what's your name?"
I thought maybe she was talking to someone else but I didn't hear anyone respond. I turned around to find her staring at me. Her eyes looked at me in question. They were dark green with a hint of yellow around the pupil. And they looked so familiar.
