A strong gust of wind blew my brimmed hat straight off of my head. I chased after it like a racing greyhound chases the rabbit during a race. Onlookers gave me judging looks as I ran down the sidewalk trying to catch the runaway hat.
My path was blocked suddenly by someone unaware of my chase. I fell with a sharp cry.
The boy eyed me on the ground , unwilling to offer a hand. His black hair stood gelled up. The path blocker was very handsome with his high cheekbones and strong jaw. The leather jacket matched with black jeans just made him even more attractive.
My eyes were too focused on checking him out to notice he was talking to me. He clapped in front of my face and, with a sharp tone, asked, "Are you deaf?"
I shook out of my haze and confidently stated, " I'm sorry, but I didn't catch what you said before the deaf thing. I'm definitely not deaf by the way." I pushed myself from the ground and dusted my self off
The boy rolled his eyes, " I said to watch where you're going loser."
He turned from me and continued on his way. I pushed myself up from the ground and brushed my clothes off. I gasped as I went to adjust my gone hat. "My hat!"
My converse clad feet in the direction it was previously flying, but it was nowhere insight. Groaning as I realized my parents would kill me for losing my third hat in a week, I sat in the middle of the concrete. My luck was terrible when it came down to keeping hats. Mother Nature just likes to antagonize me to no end.
I looked around. Not recognizing where I was at, I typed my new address into my phone. Getting up, I groaned as I saw how far away from home I was. A thirty minute walk home. To make it worse, Mother Nature decided to make my life worse. Her beautiful blue cloudless sky suddenly turned dark and grey.
"Are you serious?" I screamed to the sky. With a clap of thunder and light rain as my answer, I jumped.
I ran into the nearest building and called my older brother, Keaton. He didn't answer.
"Just when you need the dude, he doesn't answer. I'm going to kill him," I muttered loud enough for the person closest to me to hear.
He cleared his throat,"Excuse me ma'am."
"What?" I turned to him and snapped. My eyes got big when I noticed it was a police officer.
"I'm going to have to give you a warning for that threat," he stated.
The rest of the people around me caught my eye. All of them were police officers, except for a few who wore orange jumpers. I was in a police station, just my luck. "Sorry, sir, I, uh, didn't mean that. My brother didn't answer and I kind of needed to talk with him. I don't think I could actually kill him even if I wanted to."
The man nodded and walked away. I could see him glancing my way every few moments.
I texted Keaton, "I need your help. At the police station."
While waiting for his response, I sat next to a girl in a jumper who was sitting in chairs lining the walls. "So, what are you in for?"
Instead of a human response, she growled. Like a rabies infested dog, she growled. I took that as my cue to leave.
A guy with shirt brown hair and crumpled clothes rushed in. "I'm here for Keeley Jones." He told the lady in the front.
She scanned though a book but shook her head, "Sorry , but there's no Keeley Jones here."
"Are you sure?" He pulled out his phone and reread the text I previously sent him. "She sent me a message earlier saying she was here."
"Turn around," I texted him with smile.
Keaton whipped around and rushed to me. "You scared me !"
He crushed me in a hug. "I-I can't b-breathe," I hit his back repeatedly.
" Oops," he let me go.

"We're home, parents!" I called to my mom and dad as I threw the door open.
"They're not here!" Keaton called. He closed the door behind us. "What happened to your hat?"
"Ugh."
"Mother Nature took it again?" He laughed.
"Yep," I popped the p. "And there was this guy. He was hot, but he was a jerk."
Keaton grabbed a bag of potato chips from the cabinet and two waters from the fridge. Stealing a few, I opened a box labeled "living room".
Pressing the on button for the tv, I realized it wasn't even plugged in. I turned to my brother, "Hook it up, dingus."
Keaton groaned and dropped the chip bag on the sofa, "Fine, Maggot."
As soon as he got up, I jumped in his spot and stretched out. Stuffing the chips into my mouth, I thanked Keaton.
After a few minutes of him messing around with the cords behind the tv, he walked back to the couch and moved my feet. He placed my feet on his legs, and I turned on the tv.
I flicked through the channels. We didn't have the satellite hooked up yet, so we had a limited amount of local channels. Stopping on the wrestling channel, I threw a smirk to Keaton.
He frantically shook his head, "No! Last time we watched wrestling we were both grounded."
I smiled at the memory. We had cleared our old living room and created our own wrestling ring. It was a full blown wrestling match without mercy. We broke a table, two vases, Mom's favorite set of China, and Keaton's arm. Oops...
"You're just scared to get your butt kicked... again," I stuck my tongue at him.
He copied my motion, throwing in a butter finger.
I acted offended, "Rude."
"Only to you," he gave a wink. He grew a mischievous grin, "Tell me more about that guy earlier."
Sighing, I rolled my eyes. "Not much to tell. As I was running after my hat that the devil, aka Mother Nature, took, I ran into the dude. Made me loose my hat, that jerk." I paused and smiled, then changed the subject. "Have you talked to Eiley lately?"
Red creeped up his cheeks. Keaton scratched the back of his neck before answering. "I Skyped her after we first got here. We talked while I unpacked all of my room stuff."
"Wait, you're already done with your room?"
"Well yeah, need help with yours? I bet you haven't even opened a box." Keaton read my mind.
"You know me so well, Big Bro. Thanks!"
Keaton threw my legs off of his lap and got up, "We're doing your room or what?"
I laughed, " You thought I meant now! That's funny."
He rolled his eyes but joined me on the couch again.*I'm starting a new series (the shoe series) and this is the first book. I really hope y'all enjoy it and please comment what y'all think.
