I slammed Keaton's door open as hard as I could, "Where is Kelly?"
He lifted his head from the bed and mumbled something I couldn't understand. Keaton went straight back to sleep.
Huffing, I grabbed his covers. "You've got three seconds to tell me where she is," I gave him a moment, and then I began my count, " One.... Two... "
Keaton cut me off yelling, "Your stupid stuffed bear is in your bed."
I shook my head, "No, she's not. I've checked everywhere!"
He looked at me in the corner of his eye, "Check under the covers."
"If I don't find her, I'm cutting off your hair," I warned. He knew I was serious, but didn't acknowledge my threat.
I went back into my room and tore the covers off of my
bed. A thud sounded from the side of my room as my stuffed koala, Kelly, flew out off my blanket. I rushed to pick her up.
"FOUND HER!" I screamed as loud as I could to let my brother across the hall know.
It was already 12:36 at night and my parents still weren't home. My parents, who never stay out late, should've been back hours ago. Maybe they are exploring the town or having a date night.
I got dressed for bed in my donut themed pajamas and brushed my teeth. Without my parents being home, I had no one to yell at me to go to sleep early.
Even though we don't have school for a few days,we're taking a few off to unpack and get settled in, my parents would enforce a bed time. They acted like Keaton and I were four, not sixteen and eighteen.
My body was used to going to sleep early, so as soon as I turned off the light and slid under the covers clutching Kelly, I fell asleep.
~
"We're going eat with your dad's boss and his family tonight at their house," Mom announced to Keaton and me. I rolled my eyes. Each time we moved, we had to do the whole "meet the family" thing with every boss.
We moved every few years because my dad would get transferred a lot. Dad promised moving to the very small and unknown town of Bay Reach would be the last time we'd have to move. He worked as a cop, so really he didn't know if we'd have to move again.
"Where were y'all last night?" I questioned as I shoved cereal from my bowl into my mouth.
"We went meet your dad's boss and his wife at a restaurant," she explained without going into detail.
"Well y'all were past your curfews," I chastised her. "Where's Dad?"
"At work," she stated the obvious.
"Pfft, I knew that," I brushed it off.
~
I threw on a blue and black flannel over a black tank top. I shimmied on dark skinny jeans and slid on my black converse. My mom would most likely make me change since we're meeting Dad's boss and his family for the first time, but maybe she'll let it slide.
My door flew open, "What are you wearing? " my mom sarcastically asked as she skimmed my outfit. "Change."
Rolling my eyes, I sifted through my closet trying to find my favorite black dress. Now that everything was hanging and organized, it was easier to find it.
My mom left with a ten minute warning. I put the dress on and put my black converse back on. The dress had short sleeves and was made of a thick material.
"Come on, Honey, we're going to be late!" my dad called as he knocked on my door. At least someone in this family had enough decency to knock.
I opened the door and slid my phone into my bra. My dad chuckled at me. He'd never understand the struggle of carrying things as a girl. Dresses usually never have pockets so you gotta do what you gotta do.
Keaton and I sat in the back seat and argued about nothing in particular until we arrived at a large Victorian style house. It was two stories and had columns lining every side. The bushes lining the front were perfectly trimmed, not a leaf out of place.
"Wow! This place is beautiful," I whispered to Keaton.
"Probably rich snobs," he snarked back. I smacked his arm.
"Play nice," I warned. He hates coming to these things as much as I do, probably even more.
We parked in the drive way and unloaded. What I assumed to my dad's boss and his wife, met us outside. I immediately turned red realizing that the man was the man from the police station.
Keaton gave me a weird look as I covered my face in embarrassment. I forgot to tell him that part of the story.
The man gave a deep laugh as he recognized me. "Charlie, that's the girl I mentioned yesterday!"
Dad scratched the back of his neck, his boss must've told him of our encounter. "Yea, that's Keeley, my daughter."
"She's a special one alright!" Mr. BossMan chuckled. He put his arm around his wife, "Im Steve and this is my wife, Melissa."
She wrapped us all in tight hugs, "It's so good to meet all of you. Our son is getting dressed in his room currently, but he should be soon down."
"This is my son,  Keaton," my dad introduced my brother. He gave a curt nod.
We followed the couple into the house. My mind was too focused on scanning the beautiful walls covered in abstract pictures and decorations to pay attention to the conversation. I caught bits and pieces about the school we were going to attend. The sports were supposed to be very good and the school has had only twenty people to fail since they opened in 1995.
I was too occupied observing the decor to realize I strayed from the group. A classic theme was followed throughout my route.
"What are you doing here?" A harsh, familiar voice demanded.
I whipped around to him with a big smile. "It's you! I was forced to come. Had to "meet the family". Why are you here?"
"It's my house," he rolled his eyes. "Where is everyone else?"
I let out an embarrassed laugh, "I kinda got distracted and got lost."
The guy huffed and grabbed my arm, "Come on."
I followed Mr. BossMan's son along the hall. After a few moments, I could her my family and his talking. When they came into view, I pulled away from the guy and ran to Keaton.
"I got lost! I thought I'd never see the sun again!" I dramatically cried into him.
The guy spoke, "I found that hooligan wandering the halls."
I quickly detached myself from my brother and turned to him and stuck my tongue.
Mrs. Melissa swatted his arm, "Don't be rude, Gavin."
We all exchanged introductions and went to the dining room. All of the adults sat on one side and they forced the three of us teenagers to the opposite end. Gavin sat across from Keaton and I was the odd man out.
They served dinner as soon as we sat down. It was Chicken Alfredo pasta, one of my absolute favorites, paired with bread sticks and salad.
I patiently waited for my turn to fill my plate. It smelled so delightful and looked delicious.
I was the last to make my plate and I took a few bread sticks and filled the rest of my plate with the pasta. I took a testing bite and smiled.  "This is amazing," I commended Mrs. Melissa.
After shoving a few more bites into my mouth, I decided to try to start a conversation with my table mates. "Do you play any sports?" He ignored me, so I kept talking, "Keaton plays football. He's a quarterback."
Gavin's head snapped to mine, but Keaton was quick to correct me, "For the last time, Keels, I am not a quarterback. I play running back, receiver, and corner back."
I could see Gavin physically relax. Rolling my eyes, I told Keaton, "You sound so boring when you say that. QB sounds so much cooler."
"But those positions are nothing alike," Keaton said annoyed. Every person we meet, I always tell them he's a quarterback. Eiley, his girlfriend, believed me for the longest until he found out I told her that we was a quarterback. That minor difference didn't even make her run for the hills.
"So I'm guessing you're a QB?" Gavin nodded at me. He didn't talk a lot. It was annoying.
"How's the team and coaches?" Keaton questioned, worried about his future team.
"Coach is an -" Gavin started but was cut off by his dad who over heard.
  "Language."
"As I was saying, Coach is a 'jerk'. He hates everyone. The team is pretty good. We got a few bad kids on the team, but since it's a small town we don't have many kids who come to our school, so Coach keeps everyone." Gavin explained.
Before Keaton could answer, I demanded, "Why do you talk to him and not me?"
  "You're annoying."
Keaton gave a loud laugh. I punched his arm and gave him a glare, sobering him up.
"You don't even know me. Everyone loves me!" I made it clear. I refused to be disliked, even though half of my previous school mates claimed they disliked me. They were all just upset because there wasn't enough of me to go around.
Gavin gave a blank stare, unconvinced, "Alright."
I quickly finished eating that plate and grabbed another large one. Gavin looked at me in wonder.
"How in the world can you fit that much into your body? That shouldn't be possible," he said in bewilderment.
  I proudly smiled.  "Practice!"
I spent my free time eating. That's all I ever did. Oh, and watching shows and movies.
After that plate was cleared, I leaned back in my chair and pushed my plate away. My stomach felt like it was going to burst, but I refused to let that bother me. I tried to start up conversations with Gavin and Keaton, but they just brushed me off and continued eating.
I rested my head on the back of the chair until the rest of them finished eating which felt like hours. Instead of getting up from the table and moving to the living room or somewhere else, they stayed at the table. I groaned silently.
Gavin stood up catching my attention. Maybe we're actually going to do something besides sitting here. "I'm going check on Riley," he directed to his mom. He grabbed his plate and cup and then headed to the kitchen.
Mrs. Melissa smiled at me, "You can go with him."
I nodded and followed him into the kitchen. I had no idea who this Riley was, but I'd rather go and meet them I stead of staying in that place. I silently cheered as I crossed the fortress into the kitchen.
Gavin placed his dishes in the sink, so I did too.
He noticed me, "What are you doing?"
I shrugged. "Your mom said I could come. I was bored so I came. I don't know what we're doing, just that we're going see someone named Riley."
  "Fine."

This story is supposed to be funny/ not too serious. So please don't think I write my characters in all my stories as "crazy" as Keeley. I was aiming of more of a comedy for this book😂!

By the way my thoughts go out to the victims of hurricane Harvey. A lot of my friends' houses were messed up and pets have gone missing so please keep them in your thoughts!!!!*
