I laid in my bed twisting the joysticks of my Xbox 360 controller in attempt to kill the skeleton on my television screen. Why is it called a joystick anyways? It's not like it has a smiley face on it, or reminds you to be happy.
"Jen" I heard as someone knocked on my door. It was my mom's voice.
"Come in" I said coughing as I did. I caught a bit of a cold from the hospital so I just decided to stay in bed. Besides, there's not a lot to do when you have a broken arm and leg, a sore back, along with being sick. My baby was fine though. I got scans with Dr.Davis and she said that baby was fine, but I needed to relax.
My mom walked in with a bowl in her hands. As she smiled and set the bowl down on my nightstand, I realized what was in the bowl. My own personal chicken noodle soup. Chicken broth with cooked cut up spaghetti noodles, carrots, celery, chicken pieces, and brown sugar. Odd combination, but it's good.
"Thanks" I said taking the silver spoon she set beside it and taking a bite. It was hot and burnt my mouth, but oh did it taste good.
"No problem. Nova gave this to me for you.." She said prying an envelope out of her sweater pocket and handing it to me. It had my name written on the light blue envelope with pink gel pen.
My mom walked out of the room before I could say anything. I took the pocket knife out of the drawer of my night stand and slit open the envelope. I pulled out a card that appeared to be homemade. The front of it read,
Sorry you're not well
The inside read,
Jennifer,
I heard what happened yesterday. I hope you're better soon.-Nova Alwood
Inside it had a card that said to text her and it had her number on it. I put her number in my phone and texted her.
Hey is this Nova?
Yeah. Who's this?
It's Jennifer Landsdowne. Your neighbor?
Oh, hey. I can guess you got my card?
Of course. Thank you!
No problem. How are you?
Mentally I'm fine (probably not), but physically I have a broken leg and broken arm. My everything is sore though.
I'm sure you're mentally fine. And ouch. How's your back? Your mom told me you hit it pretty hard.
Yeah. It hurts a lot actually. It hurts to move since everything is attached to the spine.
I see...
And that's where the texts ended. I didn't know what to say to her. I sat up in bed and almost screamed in pain from my back. Once I got in a bare able position, I began to eat my soup. After a couple minutes of silence I heard a knock on my door.
"Come in!" I yelled assuming it was my mom. I thought wrong when a girl with blonde hair and green eyes walked into my room.
"Oh... Hey" I said in surprise. She smiled at me shyly.
"Your mom let me in. Uh... Can I sit with you?" She asked me. I nodded my head and threw my legs over the side of the bed, to maneuver myself into a normal position. I patted the bed beside me and she came and sat down beside me.
"I brought you a cream for your back pains. My family makes creams and oils out of plants and herbs. This cream should help your back if you put it on twice a day for three days." She said pulling a container with a clear substance in it out of her pocket.
