"The gas"
"What about it?"
"Hit it."
"What?"
"Was I speaking Spanish?"
"Okay." He said raising the last syllable with the ends of his lips into a smile that grew ear to ear. His hand slide out of mine to grip the steering wheel. I looked up to the sky thanks to the car top being down. We were going a steady 30 MPhil as I watched the stars twinkling. It was a peaceful night, and warm with wheat fields on either side of the gravel road as all of the sudden, the tires tore through it all, the gravel, the darkness of the night. We were roaring as if we had suddenly become the creature of the night and the stars didn't just twinkle but ran to keep up with us. My unexpected squeal tore out of my throat and joined the chorus of the angry gravel, the whistling wind, and the deep laugh coming from his chest like weights. I saw his carefree self coming back to me and the warmth in my cheeks battled the freezing wind.

The road in front of us was like a buffet table that never seemed to end. The car ate it's fill and more of the darkened path. The bliss of the moment was compared to nothing that I had felt in a long time. Completely absorbed in the moment I felt his hand slip in mind. I let it be natural and simply smiled, I leaned my head back and drank in as much as I could. I felt our speed decline ever so slightly but at this point I didn't care because I was too busy letting the night and his presence sink into my pores.

Up ahead, I saw the split to the dark ribbon we rode. A four way crossing was a little ways off but in seconds we would be upon it. I squeezed his hand and we made eye contact. Words would have just been swallowed into the wind and so I gave a look that said 'slow down'. We were right at the 4 way cross as the car sighed to a stop. He pulled it off the road a little on the grass before the crops started and turned to smirk at me.

"Too much?"
"Too much? You kidding? Not enough. I'm only mad that you ruined my hair."
"Oh yeah cause you didn't ask for it at all." We smiled the rest of the conversation at each other. He parked the car and I unfastened my seat belt and got out of the vehicle. I felt him watch me as I came around to the roadside and I heard the car door open and close.
"Where are you going?" I could almost hear the pep in his step as I strode towards the center of the crossing. Not a car, other than our parked one was in sight. I closed my eyes and smiled taking in a deep breath full of night.

"Smell that? Remember?". My eyes were still closed and I didn't open them until we was right in front of me. I meet his eyes as I tilted my head up to a position that would have hurt but was so familiar to me now. His smile was wide as he nodded, placing a hand on my cheek. We stood a moment like that, until I stepped aside slightly and lowered myself down to lay long ways on the gravel. He joined me, and we laid there for a good several minutes, simply looking at the stars in the center of a 4 way crossing, in the middle of nowhere. For a long while, there was no scientific evidence to prove that at that moment we weren't laying in the center of the world, the universe. At that moment nothing could tell me that where we were was not where energy was pumped in and out to the rest of the world, because I felt it.

What was once buried so deeply in my chest now felt like it was right there, working in the public eye. It pumped so much and so fast, the only expectation is that it was for the rest of the world because this must energy couldn't possibly be all for me. The pulsating in my veins could be felt all over the globe and for the first time, felt in me. Indeed, my heart rest upon my sleave for he felt it when he grabbed my hand. This time I looked at him, having become suddenly aware that it wasn't just the beating in my chest but also the beating in his. The smile never left his face and seeing his made me realize mine hadn't either; it only grew stronger.

Completely entranced in his gaze, I physically couldn't turn my head and it wasn't because of the rock that was pressed against my skull, no, but the look in his eyes. There it was, that look that only I get to see. The one he had struggled to find again. The one he had helped me find for myself.

"Let's stay here forever." I wanted so desperately to agree. The rest of the world was way back the dark road we took. So far away that want consumed me. I didn't answer, I just kissed him. Our distance made us so deprived and all I wanted was him. I wanted to be held, touched. He fingers ran though my hair as he pulled me closer to him. His hand suddenly wiped the rocks away and offered a softer ground as he pushed me toward it and covered me. As we rolled into the clear spot his arms wrapped around me. I felt his lips trailed down from my lips to my neck and slowly farther. My hand buried itself into his hair and the other gripped his shoulder. I shuddered not because I was cold but just the opposite. Our heart beats had just got done slowing but as if they were one single heart, each of ours increased in rate. He took away my thoughts and made me feel. I felt his skin on mine, felt his breath tickle my neck between kisses, and felt our grips to grow stronger. I let out a giggle as I realized that my legs wrapped around his torso and a gasp as he kissed the spot on my collarbone. He pushed me into the ground with his body and I didn't mind in fact, I craved it. His hand slide down my side, found my shorts and-

The sound of the heart stopping car horn brought us back to the rest of the world. Head lights doused us as they came closer, the roaring gravel that, for whatever reason we hadn't heard, slowed as the car's engine was like a tapping of the toe. In seconds he was up and pulled me to my feet and pushed me back to the side of the road with his body to keep me from the flying rocks. The car roomed past and we were quiet for a moment. Then, we started laughing.

"How did we not hear them coming?"
"Well," he grinned mischeviously, "I know I was a little distracted."
I smiled as response and he wrapped his arms around me again and pushed me backwards up against the car.
"Hey," I said
"Yeah?"
"Thanks."
"For?"
"This."
"Don't say it like this is going to be a one times thing."
"No?"
"I dragged your ass out here once don't think I won't do it again."
I remarked him with a giggle.
"I mean, if a car was the only thing stopping us from where we were going I think," He dropped his head closer to my ear, "we have to do this again. What do you say?"
"I say, get me home in time and we will talk."
