Ch. 5 Memory lapses and odd dreams
Axen's P.O.V.
"Axen?" Aved asked after a few minutes of silence.
I rolled onto my side and fought off the urge to just ignore him. He invited himself into my life and just planned to stay until I was safe. I didn't want him here. He didn't belong in my messed up life. I didn't think I would ever be safe again though. There was something weird going on and I didn't know what was going to happen to me. I didn't want Aved hurt either, he didn't deserve it. "Axen?" he said again.
"What Aved?" I asked with a scowl, not that he could see me. I hated that we were fighting but he was being a stubborn butt head. He was just too nice for his own good.
"Why won't you let me in?" He asked softly, shifting around on the floor a bit.
"Because I'm used to people leaving me. I don't like letting anyone in because they'll just...leave. They don't give me a chance." I whispered softly. "I don't let people in because I get hurt no matter what." I mumbled. I was used to being hurt by everyone I came into contact with. Some way or another they always screwed me over and hurt me. Now I was just used to keeping up the walls around my heart and being on my own. There was a reason I had walls and no one was going to change that.
I heard him sigh before he answered. "You know I wont hurt you Axen. You've got to know that, I haven't in the three years we've been friends. But you've got to let me in." he said softly. I rubbed a hand over my face, not wanting to discuss this with him. Just because he hadn't hurt me yet didn't mean he wasn't going to hurt me.
"I'm trying. That's all I can guarantee. Now let me sleep." I said before curling up and closing my eyes with a tired sigh. It felt good to be able to forget my worries for a bit and just sleep. Hopefully I'd be able to sleep for awhile without having any dreams. As soon as I fell asleep I was walking through the woods and heard someone behind me. All of a sudden the dream felt like a fog that washed over me and when I woke up Aved was shaking me awake. I instantly could not remember what I was dreaming about or why it was so upsetting. All I knew was I couldn't breathe and I had had a nightmare.
"Hey, Axen, wake up it's just a dream. C'mon." he said pulling me into his arms. I curled into his chest, gasping for air. What the hell was I dreaming about? I couldn't remember anything about the dream. "Shh baby girl. You're okay now. It's okay." he said softly as he rocked me. I buried my face in his neck and swallowed as I fought tears that I didn't understand. Why did I want to cry? Why the hell was I so upset?
"W-what happened?" I asked wiping my face as I struggled to control my breathing and my emotions.
"I woke up and you were freaking out in your sleep. You were screaming about something. I don't know what though." he murmured softly. "Do you want to talk about it?" He asked stroking my hair gently.
"I don't remember the dream." I said, my voice thick with tears.
"What?" He asked leaning back to search my eyes, forgetting that it was dark.
"I don't remember." I whispered before curling up against him, needing his warmth. I just wanted to be held by strong arms and protected, not that he could protect me in my own head but it was worth a shot.
"Alright. It's alright. We'll talk about it in the morning. Let's just get some more sleep. We still have a few hours." he said before curling around me and tucking me tight against him. I sniffled and closed my eyes trying to sleep. I drifted off rather quickly and stayed asleep the rest of the night.
Aved's POV
When I woke up the next morning Axen was already in the shower. I sighed quietly and rubbed my face, not wanting to get up and deal with school. She had shaved about ten years off my life last night with the way she woke me up. I hated the idea that she was so terrified in a dream that she was literally screaming. I sat up and forced the sleepiness from my mind before getting out of her comfortable bed. I went to my duffel bag and grabbed a pair of jeans and a red polo t-shirt due to the having a game tonight. School rules were that on game days you had to dress fancier than just normal dress. It was a stupid rule but if you played sports you abided by it.
