So Far Away
4th July (16 weeks and 5 days)
Declan's POV
I looked down at my beautiful girl as she slept soundly, Bell somehow wriggled herself onto my side of our bed while I was in the shower, her arm rested over the babies protectively. Leaning in closely, I pressed my lips to hers ever so softly before whispering "I love you", she just keeps getting more and more beautiful each time I look at her. I rubbed my hand gently over her protruding belly, feeling our babies move around, baby b is the one causing her the most grief at the moment, she's constantly going to the toilet because that little one is pushing on her bladder, or that's what she tells me anyways.
Placing a light kiss on each spot where my babies rest inside their Mummy, I closed my eyes and wished that my Mum and Aunty could be here to share this with us. I looked around the huge guest room that we stayed in last night, I've never seen a bedroom this size before, in fact, Dad's whole house is massive. This was the first night we've stayed here, it was Dad's birthday last night and he offered us the room for the night, I think Bell is still snoring her little head off because this bed is the best thing I've ever slept on. I quietly left the room and made sure I didn't disturb my girl, she's been very exhausted this last week, and it's starting to make me feel very worried and anxious, she's looking like some of the other women at the clinic that are almost full term.
"Did you sleep well Declan?" Joey asked me as I walked into the kitchen and took a seat on one of the bar stools, the aroma in here is mouth watering, it smells like a cafe, fresh cakes and breads being baked and a strong dose of coffee.
"Yeah, like I was floating on a cloud." I chuckled, she did as well and passed me a huge mug of piping hot coffee, hell that smells good.
"Thanks for letting us stay." I said after I took a sip from the mug, man, this tastes even better, Joey turned and gave me a smile, I don't want to intrude in her home if it's not alright, but she does keep telling me she's fine with it.
"Like I said Declan, this is your home now too, you can stay anytime." she said as she walked back over to me and sat down beside me, she too had a huge mug of coffee.
"I remember your Mum." Joey said after a little comfortable silence, I frowned and turned to her, she gave me a smile and reached out and squeezed the hand I had resting on the bench.
"Really?" I asked, she nodded and gave me a grin, she really has one bubbly and happy personality, she really is a nice lady and she's made me feel very welcomed into the family, she reminds me a lot of my Mum.
"Yep, I have some journals and I found you in one of them, in the one called weird and whacky." she chuckled, and got up and walked over to one of the bookshelves that lined the breakfast nook and pulled out a hard covered diary looking book.
"I was going through some of my records after your birthday and it took me a while but I found it, I helped deliver you." she said as she walked back and placed the book between us and opened up the page that made a bookmark in it, and fair enough, it's me on the day I was born.
"Wow, this is so weird." I laughed as I moved the book closer to me, by the looks of it, each birth got it's own page and there's a couple of photos, names, other birth details and a short tale of how the birth happened. I looked over the page slowly and traced my fingers over the page lightly, my name was in big blue letters across the top, under that there was a photo of me wrapped in a white blanket with a blue beanie on my head. The photo down the bottom corner held my attention, it was of me and my Mum, she was looking down at me with the biggest smile I've ever seen, I wish that smile was still here.
