'Deep breath in, deep breath out.'
Scarlett coached herself as she nervously opened the passenger door of her fathers pickup truck. Her boots hit the asphalt with a soft click and she took in a sharp breath of air that smelled familiar with the normal scents of a stables. She let her hand trail along the truck and trailer as she walked along it to the back. Inside her six year old thoroughbred gelding ,Sparrow, snorted. Grinning a nervous smile she helped her dad lower the ramp and slowly walked up into the trailer and untied her mount. Petting his pink nose softly Scarlett backed him off the ramp with practiced ease and turned him in the direction of the stables. That tour had really payed off in helping her get everything settled more easy. Slinging the rope up onto the horse's neck was a habit and one she did often, so it wasn't unusual when she did so while leading Sparrow to his stall. Glancing around, she took in the beautiful surroundings for a second time. 'This is mine for four more years' she told, herself still in disbelief that she had gotten that scholarship. Suddenly she was brought out of her thoughts by her dad snapping his fingers at her. "Hello, earth to Scarlett." He chuckled and patted her shoulder. "We should be getting everything to you dorm Scar. Its about time I leave." Scarlett could only nod in response as she remembered that she wouldn't see her father until holidays. She followed him out of the barn and towards the looming dorm building, where her and her roommate ,Nevada, would be staying.
She had been a little shy when she had first talked to the young Native American girl but they soon became pretty good friends after talking for days about the school year ahead. So together they had planned out everything for their dorm room and it was looking pretty good. They had managed to get a TV, mini fridge, microwave and Nevada had brought her Xbox from home. Walking into her new home, Scarlett was greeted by Nevada and her parents helping to get the room in order. Two twin beds, set up against one wall, and everything else strategically placed around the large room. After about twenty minutes Nevada's parents left and Scarlett's father gave her a big hug. "You make me proud Scar." He told her as he left and she nodded before calling "I will." Now left alone in their room the two girls went about unpacking and decorating more. "So Scarlett it is so good to finally meet you in person!" Nevada exclaimed energetically as she hung up a poster behind Scarlett. Turning Scarlett nodded and gasped when she saw the poster. "No way! Your a supernatural fan too?" She exclaimed. Nevada bobbed her head up and down quickly, "Yeah!" Pretty soon the girls where laughing and talking about their favorite shows and such when there came a knock on the door. A blonde headed woman popped her head in and smiled at them "Hello ladies, just to let you know that there is a meeting in ten minutes at the stables if your a rider. Other than that ya'll are good for the night, supper will be down at the cafeteria around six." She briefly explained before adding "I'm Karen by the way, your dorm monitor!" With that Karen was gone and the girls where left staring at a close door. "I totally forgot to ask, but are you a rider?" Scarlett questioned as she turned her head to her roommate. "Yeah!" Nevada replied as she unfolded herself off of her purple beanbag. "Awesome. Do you have a horse?" Scar asked again as they got ready to leave the room. "Yeah, a eight year old Hanoverian mare named Beat You To It but I call her Bella. You?" Nevada replied grabbing their key card and holding the door open for the both. "Cool, yeah mine is a six year old Thoroughbred gelding named Wild Sparrow, Sparrow in other words." She laughed.
When the two girls arrived down at the stables, they inched into the gathering crowd of students and looked over to their trainer. He was a tall, kind of attractive guy. Mr. Freeman cleared his throat and looked over the crowd. "Alright students, this is just to give you the rundown of things really quick." His eyes flickered back over the crowd before he continued "Tryouts for teams will be next week. As most of you know we will have beginner, intermediate, and advanced tryouts. National and international tryouts will be after the holidays. They are quite simple really and nothing to sweat." He flashed a quick grin. "Alright time for some rules, no one allowed into the stables after nine, unless given specific permission. Obviously were a helmet when riding, don't ride on the trails alone, and no jumping alone. Everyone got it?" Most of the students nodded or gave a verbal response. Mr Freeman smiled again, "Alright good, y'all are dismissed."
Hello my beautiful peoples :D This is the first chapter of many to come hopefully and I love feedback. So if y'all kind ladies and gents care to leave some, go right ahead. Thank you for taking the time to read it and I hope you'll come back!
