drowning

It's hard to describe
The way that the water was cold and yet I couldn't feel it.
Looking up into the distorted sky,
I could feel the hand locking me in place
In this prison full of pain and coldness
Everything was soundless,
The sky, trees and sunlight merging together in a watery compound of bright colours.
My limbs felt tiredly heavy.
I didn't know where I was or what I was doing and I didn't care.
I couldn't think; all I wanted was to sleep.
Distant dreams calling me.
The hands gripped tighter, restricting my air supply.
My ribs stung, in an almost satisfying way.
It wasn't painful anymore.
I was being compressed
Pushed inwards; inwards and inwards until I would eventually disappear.
The lifting. The upwards motion is what confused me.
The water lapped around me as someone pulled me upwards,
Their warm tendril arms wrapping around me, giving me just enough heat.
My lungs stung
And my throat.
And my nose
And pain was spread throughout every cell of my body.
My body fought hard to expel the thing that keeps you alive, but has the potential to make you fade away.
And that exactly what I was being pulled from; fading.
That was the part that hurt the most.
With every movement, strings of pain shot through me.
It's harder to un-fade something.
If you dye something a shade of black,
How hard is it to bring it back to its original vibrancy?
To tame the darkness that has seeped through.
