From the very first day of school, Daichi Sawamura has always taken the 8.00 am #2 Train to Karasuno High School without fail. There are times where he just wants to sleep in just that 5 minutes more, then he remembers he cannot be late. Now, why is that?
Now you see, on the first day he stepped into that train, a beauty boarded the train seven minutes later at the next station. He still remembers how time stopped as he gazed at the stunning boy in front of him. He had silver hair that shone under the bright light coming through the windows. His eyes seemed to sparkle. Daichi recalls how his beauty mark under his left eye would wrinkle up every time he laughed as his friend (who seemed to be with him every day) cracks a joke. The way the sides of this boy's mouth would tug up as he smiled. In other words, Daichi found him perfect.
The next day, Daichi boarded the same 8.00 am train. Again, he saw epitome of perfection (in his dictionary at least) standing in front of him.
This happened the next day.
And the next.
And the next.
Sadly, this angel was not put in the same class as Daichi, and Daichi could not feel worse. And thus, he took note of this pattern, and made sure he always boards the 8.00 am train on time to get to his favorite seat right next to the window, to get a good look at the other boy when he steps into the train.
There were many times (many times as in every time he sees him) where Daichi just wanted to stand up and walk that two meters towards the astonishing male, but he could not find the courage in himself to do so. He could not find the courage to say a simple phrase of 'Good Morning.'
And so, he watches from afar.
Fridays were the absolute worst. He knew that if he did not say the two words (or more he hoped) to the other male on that day, he would spend the rest to the weekend kicking himself, asking himself why he just couldn't bring himself to say the two words he said to other people on a daily basis.
Everyday, Daichi would practice saying the phrase. In school, he could be heard repeating the two words over and over again, just in case he bumps into the shorter boy in the hallways. But instead, whenever Daichi sees him, his face heats up and starts looking like a tomato. He ends up turning his head away to hide his embarrassment.
Every night, before sleeping, Daichi would practice saying the phrase to himself, to try and summon the courage for the following morning. And as we know, it does not work. The morning after that, once the doors open to reveal the man that brightens up Daichi's days, Daichi finds himself both speechless and breathless. And the half an hour used to practice the two words the previous night goes to waste.
-----
Daichi remembers that one day when they made eye contact for more than 5 seconds. It was a normal day, Daichi sitting in his window-side seat. He glanced at his watch.
8.06 am.
He took a deep breath. The doors opened, and in stepped the magnificent boy. Daichi felt himself get helpless as he examined the boy for the millionth time since the year started. Taking in details about him, like how bouncy and touchable his hair looked, he was entranced by him once again. He stumbles out of his seat in an attempt to walk towards the boy, but his legs froze after the first step.
And suddenly, the boy looked at Daichi.
The latter felt his heart stop.
'Crap! Did he catch me staring? He's going to think I'm such a weirdo now! He's going to think I'm a stalker! Well, you had your chance, Sawamura. And you missed it.'
