Eliana
As I walked up to my apartment door, I silently prayed that Brianna was either asleep or out. Even though it was only 5pm, I still had a little bit of hope that she'd be asleep.
No such luck.
As soon as I walked in the door I heard Brianna's voice carrying from her room. She was on the phone.
I made my way as quietly as possible towards my room so I could cover up the bruise that was forming on my chin.
"Hold on- Liana?" I heard from Brianna's bedroom.
"Yeah?" I said. I casually reached up and scratched my chin as she walked out to greet me.
"Where ya' been?" She asked. "I ordered pizza."
"Oh you know, around." I said gesturing in a general circular motion.
Without realizing it I had removed my hand from my chin and Brianna gasped.
"Eliana Carter what is that on your face?!" She asked.
I grimaced. Damn it.
"Uh, it's nothing." I said covering it up again.
"Liana." She warned.
"Okay, I bumped into a door, happy?" I inwardly cringed. I hated lying to her.
"That was you're excuse last time." She said, her expression turning soft, worried and somewhat hurt.
I sighed, the truth would have to come out eventually.
Just as I was about to answer, the door bell rang.
"We'll talk about it over dinner." I said as I turned to get the door.
After paying for the pizza and setting up a few more items of junk food we settled in the living room.
"Okay." I sighed. "It all started on the opening day of the shop. Before I hired you. I was-"
"Whoa! Wait what?" She exclaimed.
"Yes," I nodded. "that long ago."
"Okay..."
"So right after work- you know how my childhood was. The constant fights, the broken glass and china all over the floor and the drinking. And not to mention the beatings." I said. "And you remember how my dad was that day, I told you. Well that night, I snuck out of the house and went to a nearby bar. And I met a couple people."
"Oh god..." She said.
"Okay look, bottom line. I have friends that run into the law more than you run into walls." I chuckled when she pouted.
"So what happened today?" She said.
"There's another group of people that we've got a problem with. An Brody just added fuel to the fire." I muttered the last part but Brianna still heard.
"Brody?" She asked. "Who?"
"Oh, right he's my right hand guy. Then there's Gabriel. -And before you ask, yes, the one I work with. Then there's Valerie and-"
"Valerie?" She questioned. "She's not replacing me is she?" She asked worriedly.
"No, of course not. As if anyone could replace you." I assured her.
"Okay, continue."
"So there's Brody, Gabriel, Valerie, Sabrina and Zach."
"Why didn't you tell me?" She questioned.
