~Chapter One-The Loftwing Ceremony~
Moonlight poured in Diamond's room, flooding a square on the floor with light. Diamond peered at it while she pulled the covers up further around her body. She shivered at the thought of a Remlit jumping in her window. 'Silly thinking.' She tossed and turned in her bed, trying to go to sleep. She had had a weird dream. She was in a misty room and heard a chilling voice call, "Diamond, Diamond" out to her. Then a flash of white enveloped her and then she woke up. The chilling dream left a fear in her.

The next morning, sunlight streamed through her window, suddenly blotted out by a figure poking through. "Wake up! Todays the big day!" Diamond sleepily peered at the figure, then quickly sat up. 'Today is when we get our Loftwings!' The thought raced through her mind as the figure stared happily at her. "Starlight," Diamond said, "I hope my Loftwing is beautiful. But why exactly did you poke your head through the window instead of coming in by the door?" "Right, about that...." Starlight trailed off. Diamond raised an eyebrow, then asked, "Should we get there early?" "Yes, of course!" Starlight loudly stated. "Hurry, I'll be waiting for you outside." Starlight's head disappeared from the window and Diamond started getting ready.
Diamond searched around Skyloft for Starlight. She peered up at the goddess statue. 'Of course she's there!' She thought as she scampered away to find her.
When Diamond got to the statue, Zelda and Starlight were in a conversation. "But they could never...." "Yes, they could!" Starlight and Zelda must have been talking privately, but very loud. Zelda held Mia in her arms, and whispered something to her and the remlit pounced out of her arms and scurried away, apparently in search of something. "Hey! Starlight! Zelda!" called Diamond as their gazes locked onto hers. "Hey girl!" Starlight and Zelda said at the same time. Diamond, who was panting, spoke. "I hope my Loftwing is adorable and a good flyer. I can't wait to take to the skies." Starlight nodded. "Here comes Headmaster!" They all turned and sure enough, there he was, Mia trailing behind him. 'That must have been where Mia went.' Diamond thought. "Where is Link on a day like this? I thought he would be here by now." Headmaster questioned. "You know he is a sleepyhead, father. He'll be here soon enough." Zelda encouraged. Diamond whispered, "Ooh, you just can't wait to see him" into her ear and nudged her with her elbow. Zelda gave her a 'shut-up' glare but then smiled. Headmaster turned and shouted, "Link, hurry up! The ceremony is about to begin!" Diamond saw a figure running fast up to where they were.
Link, Diamond, Zelda, and Starlight were huddled in a circle, talking and then the bell chimed in. Instructor Horwell yelled, "All Loftwing recievers stand here, in a straight line. The ceremony long awaited is finally here." He pointed to where they should stand. Everyone lined up.
Diamond looked nervously around as she fidgeted with her necklace. As each name was called, the person stood in the center of the circle in front of the statue and then their Loftwing flew down to them. After everyone had gone, then they could fly their new Loftwing. They were a symbol of the goddess' protection. A voice broke her thoughts. "Starlight, come forth." She watched as Starlight stood in the circle, waiting for her bird. All of a sudden, a figure high in the sky swooped down and landed beside her. "She is beautiful." Starlight gasped. Her Loftwing was a smoky black with orange, like a pumpkin. The Loftwing nuzzled her hand, then flew back into the vast skies. Diamond's stomach twisted. She was next. This was her moment.
"Diamond, come forth." Diamond nervously walked to the circle. Soon enough, a Loftwing flew down to her side. Diamond stopped fidgeting with her necklace at the sight of it. The loftwing was a stunning orange, brighter than Starlight's. The tips of its wings were light green, and a black diamond shape was around its eye. Instructor Horwell gave off a 'hmph' and then called out Zelda's name. Her Loftwing gracefully flew down to her. It was light purple with beauty, like Zelda herself. Then Link was finally called, the last person to go. Link stood in the circle as he awaited his bird. But it didn't come. 'It should have come by now.' Diamond thought. She, Zelda, and Starlight peered up, with relief, to finally see a bird swooping down to Link. When it stood next to him, Headmaster and the instructor's gasped. "We-we haven't seen that bird for-for forever! We thought it was out of the line!" Headmaster exclaimed with shock. The Loftwing was a beautiful crimson red, all the way through. Diamond stared at it while he announced, "The ceremony is over. Now you may jump off the platform-" he pointed to it, "and call your new Loftwing!"
Everyone walked excitedly to the edge of the platform. Groose snorted. "I will be the best Loftwing flyer than any of you...." He trailed off as his gaze met Zelda's. "Of-of course....of course not you....." His eyes shut and his nose started puffing smoke out of it. "Of course." Zelda mocked and then dashed off of the platform. She let off a high pitched whistle and sure enough, her Loftwing swooped below her and caught her, and they flew off into the sky. Diamond nervously ran and jumped off the platform as everyone else did, leaving Groose behind, and they were off into the sky at last.
