"You're back Ghana" Ahmad grinned genuinely pleased to see her sitting in his office. She gave a quick smile, that if he hadn't been looking he would have never known was there.
"How have you been?"
"Dealing. You?"
"Dealing? I'm fine thank you for asking" Ahmad excused himself to his desk and straightened out a stack of overflowing papers.
"Have you written?"
"I have" Ghana scratched the side of her head then leaned it against the back of her hand.
"Good. Hopefully you will be able to bring it in one day. Today we are going to be playing a game. I hope you like them because this one will last the entire session. Ghana"
She lifted her head and saw he reclaimed his seat across from her.
"Please remove your shades"
She took her time but did as told and met his light brown orbs with diluted black eyes.
The dilation was mentally noted as he proceeded acting as if he never saw it.
"The game will go as this, think of a word"
Ahmad smirked as she did.
"Okay" Ghana blinked.
"Picture it in your mind. Then arrange all the letters so they are in alphabetical order"
She couldn't help but smile with confusion. "What?"
"This game is a mental workout that if done regularly- fives minutes a day three times a week- will condition your mind to looking at things in a different way, if not multiple. As you get better, increase the vocabulary of words you are arranging and your mind will come up with ideas you never thought of before"
For the remainder of the session they played the brain exercising game. Ghana laughed, trying her best to keep it in as it proceeded. It became more intense and switched so Ahmad was the one giving her the words.
"You should come to the club" Ghana blurted the words after five minutes of hesitation.
Ahmad searched her eyes like he was looking for the joke. "I wouldn't do that"
"Why not?" She asked as she was getting ready to leave. Ahmad towered over her at his six five height. "Maybe it can help with my therapy, once you see me in my element. It can give you a better perception to who I am"
"Because that's not why you want me to come" A hint of a smile spread his full lips as half of Ghana's mouth lifted.
He stared down at her with confident eyes.
"I mean" She shrugged. "You would have fun. Don't you think?"
Ahmad smiled politely. "I'm sure I would. But I'm here to expand your mind outside of its axis so you can find healthier ways to cope with embedded pain. Next week were trying cognitive therapy"
Her eyes rolled. "Why does everyone believe I have embedded pain?"
"It shows in your actions. Speaking of actions, how did we get to dependance on a substance?" He put his hands in his pockets and sat on the arm of the chair she previously sat in.
Ghana momentarily looked away, subconsciously touching her nose.
"I like the feeling"
"There is nothing we are supposed to hide behind these doors. That's the entire point of this therapy"
She met his light brown stare. Sitting on the edge of the chair he sat at her five four height.
"A girl I danced with introduced me to it. I liked it so I kept doing it"
