"I can't believe you right now! Sneaking out, drinking, getting back together with that, with that girl. What on earth were you thinking?" If oMagnus was being honest, which he was trying to be, at least with himself, he was thinking about how loud the rain was on his mother's car roof as the drove through the streets of Brooklyn, NY in oder to return to their two bedroom apartment.

"I'm sorry mom, it was a mistake, a simple lapse in judgment." Devi Bane turned her head to level him with a glare before turning back to the road,

"Yes, a simple lapse in judgment which sent you to the hospital!" Magnus winced, yeah the hospital, the reason they were in the car right now.

"I'm sorry."

"I don't think you understand how mad I am right now, I get home from the night shift at the hospital to find that, that girl on top of you while you're passed out in my bed. I was lucky to have called to police or else you could have died Magnus." She stops to breath for a moment before parking in front of their apartment building and twisting in her seat to look at him, her lips are pursed and her nails are drumming on the steering wheel. She's pissed and Magnus feels like the world's biggest ass right then.

"You know I didn't want to send you away, I still don't but I can't see keeping you here either." Magnus felt his heart drop,

"What are you saying?" She lets out a sigh and tilts his chin up to look at her,

"While the doctors were treating you I was looking up boarding schools out of state, I found one in New England that would be happy to take you, even if it is in the middle of the school year." Magnus felt his breath stick in his throat, as if he'd tried to swallow something and it got stuck. He didn't want to go to a boarding school in New England, he wanted to stay here with his mom and his friends.

"I'm sorry mama." She turned away and unbuckled her seat belt.

"I know baby, I know."

The roads outside Idris were just as rainy and cold as Brooklyn had been one week before Devi Bane had loaded her only son and his luggage into the backseat of her car and began the mostly silent drive to the boarding school in New England. That was all Magnus had gotten, one week to pack up his whole life and say goodbye to everyone he knew in Brooklyn before throwing his luggage in the car and heading off to no where New England. Magnus hated his life at the current moment, and had actually hated his life for the past week. Especially since the withdrawals started about two days in, you gotta love addiction, especially the ones that ruin your life. Magnus peeled his forehead off of the backseat window,

"Where even are we?" His mother only hummed as a response, which really only served to fuel the annoyance towards the woman who gave birth to him.

"You promised me ice cream for getting into the car." She cast a glance into the rear view mirror,

"It's not my fault you fell for that." Magnus huffed and rolled his eyes before pressing his head back against the window. It didn't matter weither he had bought the ice cream story or not she still would have forced him into the car anyways. The rain had seemed to lessen while they talked but now had returned with a vengeance and was pelting the car window angrily. The car tiers were splashing through miniature lakes and causing waves to ride up the side of the car.

Magnus leans away from the window and starts to say something, but then thinks better of it and rests his forehead against the window of the car once more.

A half hour later the rain had died off and the silent car had pulled into the parking lot of The Idris Academy. Magnus looked up at the large dark stone building, the windows reminded him of  eyes, dark, judgmental eyes.

"I promise to change my ways and become a devot catholic like Maria Santiago if you take me back home right now." Magnus mother, who had climbed out, looked back at him and quirked her eyebrow before giving him the look and closing her door. When he didn't rush to open his car door like the look told him to his mother opened the door for him,

"I'll be such a good kid the only places I'll go are school and home." She rolls her eyes, grabs his arms and drags him out.

"I'll do everything around the house until I graduate, just please don't send me here." The most his mother does is throw him a pitying look before dragging him towards the door.

"Mama, please. I don't want to go here. I'll be the poster boy for the perfect child if you just take me anywhere else." They had stopped on the steps in front of the large dark wood doors, this building reminded him of an old cathedral, a judgy, creepy cathedral.

"Magnus, baby, there is no where else I could send you now."

"Well then let's wait until next year." She put her hand on the handle,

"And risk you getting pulled back into her influence again? Not a chance." Magnus wrenched his arm out of her grasp,

"You don't trust me." She shook her head and pushed the door open slightly,

"It's not that I don't trust you, it's that I don't really trust your judgement." Magnus looked down at his designer ankle boots,

"I'm sorry mama." She pushed open the doors and stepped inside,

"I know baby, I know."
