Evan led me back to the golden doors I had seen yesterday. I had to admit, I was curious. And by curious, I mean about to cry.
He opened the door, holding it open for me to walk in. My eyes went straight to the three people that were occupying the center of the room. Jack was there, standing next to a petite girl, who was dwarfed in comparison to the man from yesterday.
I eyed the girl. She was short, with long auburn hair that reached to her waist. It was the color that leaves in fall turn, before they abandon there homes. Her eyes were doe-like, big and amber colored. For some reason, I felt intimidated.
"Come on," Evan whispered, tugging my arm towards the group. My faced heated up as I noticed all the eyes on me.
"Good morning Chastity, Evan." Although his voice was not as loud as yesterday, it still boomed loudly. The young girl smiled warmly at me, and held out her hand. I noticed her teeth, they were blindingly white.
"Hi! I'm Autumn, it's wonderful to finally meet you," I looked at her hand, hesitating. "Don't worry, I don't bite." She winked at me.
I shook her hand, and was amazed how firm the handshake was. I knew right then, that this was a girl whose appearance was deceiving.
"Well, I see you've met these idiots," she laughed as they both protested, "I just want to apologize for their stupidity. Sometimes they make me wonder if there's a brain inside their heads." she paused, "Come on then, we have plenty to talk about."
Autumn turned, and walked to a comfy looking couch that I had not seen. It was a suede brown couch with gold detailing; they must really like the color gold. I took a seat on a matching couch across from her, and she started at me for a few moments.
"Wow, you look so much like your mother," She breathed, then turned her head towards Jack. "Jack, don't you agree?" He mumbled his agreement, not bothering to look up at me; apparently, he was much more interested in the floor.
"Enough small talk, we have much to discuss. Chastity, this is going to sound crazy but it's all true. First, my name is Father Nature. Mother Nature is my wife, but she's dealing with some things. That's not important right now.
Your mother was Melissa Springs, and your grandmother was Judith Springs, and I could go on. What I'm trying to say is that your mother and her mother, and many mothers before, have lived here. You are here now to take their place. Everything in your life has happened for a reason to bring you here, and we've all made sure of it. As crazy as this sounds, you four represent the seasons." He paused, looking at my face, "Jack represents winter, Evan represents summer, Autumn is autumn, and you are spring."
"I'm sorry, what?"
"You four are a team. Each of you come together to make sure that the Earth can continue as people know it. When one of you is gone, three of you can come together to make it as smooth as possible, as these three have been doing for seventeen years. I'll admit, we did have some troubles but it's been pretty decent for three teenagers. Eventually, you will be ready to go out into the world and do what you were born to do; but not quite yet. You will receive extensive training and teaching about what you can do. As for today, you will be given a tour of this facility and the schedule of which this place runs." He paused, shifting towards the others, "I expect you three to help her. Please do remember how you all felt when you arrived."
"I have a question," I raised my hand, "My grandmother knows where I am then, right?"
"Yes. Judith know where you are." Autumn nodded.
Father Nature looked at me and smiled, "Have a wonderful day. If you need anything just call." Then he literally disappeared.
I was stunned. I just wanted to go back home, even if that meant living with my grandmother again. These people were delusional. They kidnapped me and honestly thought I would buy into this bullshit.
It was dead quiet in the room, everyone waiting for me to say something. They all nervously stared at me, like they expected me to run. Which, technically speaking, I was going to the first chance I got. I hatched a plan while we sat in momentary silence.
"Look, Chastity... We couldn't say anything earlier. It's really hard to explain, if you just come with us, we can help you understand." Evan spoke up.
"Okay." I said.
They all looked at me, confused. "Okay?" Autumn asked. I nodded.
It was the beginning of the plan to book it the hell out of here.
They opened the door, and there was my chance. I sprinted as fast as I could as they called after me. I refused to look back, but I knew they were chasing me. I could hear their footsteps. My legs felt like they were going to fall off, I needed to find a place to hide. But before I could, I had the wind knocked out of me.
I smacked into a wall, and fell right on my butt.
I heard a laugh from behind as I was lifted to my feet. Evan almost dropped me because he was laughing so hard, but I caught myself that time.
"Dude, that was an epic fail. Like completely stupid, but awesome. It was like-" Evan was cut off.
"What the hell was that?" Jack yelled, his face red in anger, "Did you not hear a word he said? We are team, start acting like it!" He stormed off.
Well crap.
