Stone yanked her along after him forcefully, angrily stomping along the halls as the mocking laughs slowly faded into the background.
"What were you thinking?" Stone hissed, shoving Penelope against the wall and gripping her shoulders. "Tell me, what possessed you? A daemon?"
She raised her chin stubbornly, ignoring the pain in her shoulders from his vice-like grip.
"Is it wrong to step up when others twist their hair and ditzily bump into each other?"
"Yes!" He grumbled, releasing her and taking two steps back. "Yes, it is. Especially because it is you. Penelope, you have no talent. The others do. They have means to protect themselves. But you're also tiny, you come to the shoulders of the shortest Fairy!"
"But I'm twice the Fairy that any of them are! While they all screamed and stirred themselves into a panic I was the only to rise!"
Stone sighed, the anger draining him of any fight he may have had left. He could not deny that what she said was true. She was twice the Fairy any of the others were. But he was fond of her, as was the Queen. When the talentless Fairy banged on the Royal Doors and begged for a chance to try anything, to find her place in the world, how could they say no?
"I cannot let this happen. I - she... we cannot loose you."
"It's either the Queen or me, doc." She snapped before turning on her heel and flying away.
"I can't loose either." He whispered to himself.
How could she be so selfish as to hang that over him? How could she give him an ultimatum? But for the greater good, should he ignore himself, who was worth more to the Fairies?A talentless girl, or the Queen? The answer was so clear it pained him. In the end of things, Penelope never mattered one bit.
"Wait," He called out breathlessly. "Please."
"I'll help you go." He whispered before rushing after her.

This story is my #Wattys2017 project, along with The Tale Of Fear (found on my profile.)When I should be working on this story but I'm having serious procrastination.... and I'm working on a sequel, plus this chapter just wasn't coming together in my mind.
