The daunting presence watched from the shadows, his ethereal body floating as he fought to stay together.
Pen was muttering as the rat walked beneath her. How hilarious. How foolish. Didn't they know they could never find a cure?
Ah, that foolish fairy. Sending them off in hopes of saving her. He knew. That ghastly Fairy knew.
This was all for naught.
But was there a chance? If one believed they could, he supposed. But did Pen truly believe she could?
Sometimes, it truly isn't enough.
He could hear the distant chattering of the Rookies, and from the way Pen's head snapped up, she heard it too.

Heeey guys! Long time no see! I apologize for the short chapter, but hear me out.
4-8 AM football practice, I help my dad *cough*, I mean, Coach Johnson, with attendance. I get anything they need. Etcetera. 5-8 PM practice. Plus I have life in between.
