Scott's POV

Stiles and I were in the woods.

At night.

By ourselves.

I'm an idiot aren't I?

"Again? Scott, you do this every time." Stiles's voice sounded annoyed as I easily told him about my inhaler that constantly grows legs and walks away all the time.

He groaned in annoyance, and told me to hurry up and find the damn thing because he wanted to go home. He always wants to go home! I try to lighten up our day by putting us in activities, and finding things to do when we're bored, and all he ever does is complain and tell me to hurry up because HE wanted to go home. Yeah, some stuff I do is stupid, like right now, but I just want to spend quality time with my best friend, who everyday seems to be drawn away from me more and more because his father is the sheriff, and his crush on Lydia.. His damn crush on that strawberry blonde snob.. Is pulling him away from me, because he wants to go find ways to "Get with her", even though she's already dating the lacrosse captain, Jackson.

"I'm sorry, Stiles. I don't know how I lost it! Maybe it fell out-" Stiles shushed me by standing up straight, and putting a finger on my lips. "Shut up.. Did you hear that?" He whispered, and my heart beat quickened. I didn't hear anything, possibly because my blabbering mouth doesn't know when to quit. "Hear what..?" I whispered back, looking around with my phone scanning as much of the woods as possible.

Stiles stepped back, and froze in his tracks. "That!" That's when I heard the slightest sound of a tree branch breaking, not too far from where I was standing. I stood frozen in fear. Either there was a wild animal roaming the woods, or someone—Something,  was out here with us.

Stiles pulled on my arm, and pulled me behind a nearby tree. "Scott, stay quiet, climb this tree. Someones here." He put his phone in his pocket, and pushed back against the tree, tugging on my shirt, telling me to climb the tree.

He wanted to go by himself to see who or what was following us.

It was only about ten seconds that went by until I heard the sudden breathing of the thing, and it wasn't too far away.

My human senses were telling me to turn around and look, but Stiles kept pushing me to get to higher ground, so he can fight it off himself. What a prince charming.

"Stiles, no way am I letting you fight whatever that is on your own.. I'm coming with you!" I tried my best to whisper, but it turned out my voice was actually pretty loud. "Scott, No. You're my best friend, and I want you to be safe! Get up this tree right now, before I pick you up and put you up there myself!" I knew he was worried about me more than him, and I also knew he wasn't lying. I was a year younger, and I really didn't want to go get myself killed by whatever he was telling me he was gonna fight off, so I did what I was told. I pulled myself up on a branch that was significantly low, and then did the same with another, and another, until I was halfway up the tree.

There I sat. In a tree, looking down at Stiles, who kept looking up at me, and looking out into the distance. His hands were balled into fists, and I knew he was getting pissed off. "Who's out there?" His voice was shaking crazily, and I swore I heard him sob at one moment.

I hugged the tree with my arms, being careful to not fall backwards and kill myself that way, when I heard something.. I heard growling?

"Stiles.." I mumbled his name, scared for his life, and getting the feeling of nausea eating away at my stomach. "Stiles, get up here right now." I heard the growling again, and I dared to look down.
