That Night

Avery's POV

"Come on Cal!" I yelled to Calum from the top of the jungle gym.

"Babe, what are we doing here? Aren't we a little too old for this?"

"You'll see just come sit with me!"

Calum reluctantly walked forward and climbed up to the top.

"Why are we here? Its cold out," Calum whined.

"Look up..." I whispered

He looked up and his jaw dropped. "Wow I never knew that stars could be so..." he trailed off. We spent a few moments gazing up at the sky in awe of what was above us. It was the times like this that I was going to miss the most.

I turned to look at Calum, totally mesmerized. This is how I wanted to remember him, just like this.

"I've been coming here for years. It's my little hideaway, and I finally wanted to show it to you."

"It's beautiful here, why did you wait so long to show me?" Cal questioned still looking up.

I waited a few seconds before answering. "I wanted to do it at the right time, it never felt right until now. I wanted this to be our last night together before-".

"Wait what? What do you mean last night together? Are you breaking up with me?" Calum started to ramble, confused.

"Cal, listen, I brought you here to tell you that well, um.."

"C'mon Ave you know you can tell me anything," Calum stated while staring at me waiting for a response. He was getting anxious.

"I'm moving away-" my voice cracked.

Calum couldn't say anything.

"It-it's my dads work, they relocated him t-to Colorado," I tried to explain, but every word hurt more than the last. "I don't want to go Cal, I want to stay here with all my friends, and you, I really do. I gonna miss you so mu-". Calum cut me off before I could spiral farther.

"Avery..." he whispered while lifting my chin up, "everything will be fine, we'll make this work, I'll wait for you until you can come back, I promise...".
