The church bells of the cathedral ring in the distance, their singing light and airy compared to the dank, closed up, apartment. Flashes of the CSI's cameras taking pictures of the left over crime scene. This was the same case that they'd seen the past couple of weeks. An untouched pretty much clean crime scene.
Except for one small detail overtime, just a small pile of ash left in the center of the room.
"There's no forced entry. Maybe the vic knew the person?"
The man removes himself from off the floor and shakes his head. "No, it seems a like this guy was holing himself in is room. He was waiting for something."
"Something or someone that required the use of a hammer as a weapon?"
In the corner was a parakeet squawking, and it hadn't stopped since they'd arrived.
"Would someone please remove that damned bird?!"
The animal is promptly removed, bringing silence into the room.
There's no forced entry, I'm sure that we're right on the heels of the bastard. And no neighbors or bystanders reported hearing anything. and there's nothing to show how they may have escaped.
"What kind of sick bastard does something like this?"
His partner looks thoughtful. "Maybe a demon?"
"Ha! Very funny." He looks around the room. "But we're going to catch the bastard."
Suddenly the room gets colder and there's a disapproving noise from behind him.
"I was going to let you go. But now you're just in the way."
