Chapter Three: Second Period
Aria didn't know what to do.
Because Ryan chased after her, because Ryan tried to talk to her.
Because Ryan kissed her, for heaven's sake.
And she had run away. Nice going, me.
All before lunch, she had to add. But the million dollar question:
Why?
A dare? A bet? Or—
No. No way. That's insane. He couldn't.
Yeah, Aria thought. Definitely a bet or dare. Because if it wasn't, that means...
Before she knew it, Aria was in front of her second period, Spanish.
She would ponder this mess later.
Crossing the doorframe, she entered the classroom. Noticing her Spanish teacher, Mr. Waterson, at his desk, Aria greeted him.
"Hola, Señor."
"Buenos dias, Aria. Here's today's warmup." Mr. Waterson handed Aria a piece of paper, and Aria made her way towards her usual desk, starting the warmup as soon as she sat down. Before she could even start on the first question, Aria's seat mate, Mae, plopped down.
"Hey Aria! How are you?" She said.
"Good." Aria responded, a bit half-heartedly.
Mae turned toward Aria and leaned in a bit closer. "Are you sure..?" She inquired.
Aria sighed. "No, not really."
Mae grinned. "Knew it. What's up?"
Before Aria could speak—
BRRRRRRING!
Aria glanced up at the clock. "Class is starting. I'll tell you later, okay?"
Pouting, Mae agreed. "Fine. But you have to tell me what's up, okay?"
Aria smiled. "Got it, mom."
"Hey!"

After letting the class finish the worksheet, Mr. Waterson proceeded with the new verb conjugations he had talked about the day before. Aria took this as another good chance to forget her rather unorthodox situation, and threw herself into her note taking. Once again, the class finished rather early, and Mr. Waterson allowed the class a free period.
Steeling herself for the inevitable conversation that was bound to happen with Mae, Aria took a deep breath, and turned to the other girl.
"Okay, so—" Aria began.
"Wait! Sorry, but whatever it is, you're okay, right? Like, no one's threatening you or anything, or you're not an assassin or something— Oh no, you probably are! You're going to kill me, right? Is that what you wanted to say?? Wait, please don't...! I thought we were friends! We can work something out or—"
"Mae no! What the heck, man?"
Mae blinked. "So you're not going to kill me...?"
"Of course not! Mae, seriously...? You and your imagination, I swear..."
"Sorry, Aria." Mae grinned. "But you are okay, right? Nothing too drastic?"
"I mean, kind of...? But I'm not dying or anything, so nothing too bad..."
