He grabbed my wrist and pulled me close. I could feel his hot breath on me, wrapping around my nose like a coiled snake. I stared into his cold, dead eyes frightfully as he glared at me.
"Remember, if you don't get it, I'll end you,"
My shoes clacked on the pavement as I entered the town. A shaky breath escaped my lips and I looked around. It was a pack town. You don't have a lot of packs that fill up an entire town. The only ones that do, are the major packs. Very few normies live in pack towns, and normally, they're related to a wolf in someway. I knew either one of two things was going to happen. I dont get the necklace and I get killed, or I get caught and killed. Without my wings, I wasn't much. I continued to pass stores and stole a few glances from people. They've already recognized that I am here, unannounced and unwelcome. It was only a matter of time now. My blonde hair flowed behind me as I took longer strides. His words rattled in my brain.
"It's on her, in the form of a necklace. They won't give it up easy, or at all so you will have to steal it. Their house- which is the most guarded, is at the very end of the street by the woods. The town starts off with the shops and restaurants. Then you have the schools, then the neighborhood. Pretend you're visiting your cousin, Carla. There are five Carla's so you'll be covered,"
My thoughts were interrupted by someone calling after me."Miss! Excuse me miss!" His heavy steps slowed as they reached me. I turned around and his scent hit me. Third in command. I gritted my teeth out of fright and faced him innocently.
"Oh yes?" I answered. He was taken aback by my face. I know my scent will confuse him but I'm pretty sure he can pinpoint that I'm not a normie.
"Hey! I'm just one of the sheriff's in town and I never seen you around before. Are you lost? Can I help you with anything?" He pointed to a badge on his blue denim shirt and offered a soft smile. I returned it and shook my head. He decided to stick with the normie story.
"Oh hi officer," I said playing along, "no, I'm just here visiting my cousin Carla!" I clasped my hands together and smiled again.
"Did you just arrive?"
"Oh yes!"
"Are you planning on staying?"
"Not too long hopefully!" I was getting nervous with the questions.
"And you didn't bring any luggage?"
Lucifer! The luggage? Why didn't I think of that! I have no baggage or keys or identification. Just the clothes on my back
"Oh..." I said nervously as I looked up, "they're already at her house!" I then laughed and tucked a piece of my hair behind my ear.
"Well would you like a ride?" He offered. I shook my head no and politely declined.
"She's picking me up at the school! I better get going so I'm not too late!" I waved goodbye and started walking away.
"Be safe miss," he commented while staring at my retreating figure.
Making sure I wasn't followed, I passed the school and went into the neighborhood. 'Just act normal, just act normal' I kept repeating to myself. His house came into view and I slowed down.
"He's been in New Zealand for a week, training, like he does every six months" Allock's voice counseled, "he comes back tonight so everyone will be focused on his return," I nodded slowly as I walked around to the side. There was a small window hidden by bushes. He had previously unlocked it for me to break in. Erasing all my nerves, I slowly raised the window and struggled to get my butt in. Having a small chest yet wide hips, isn't ideal for breaking in. When my hands touched the floor, I pulled the rest of my body in and crouched there in panic. I pulled my long hair back into a ponytail and continued. Her room was the third door down on the second floor. Pink door, pink door. I repeated as I stalked up he stairs. Soon enough the pink doors came in sight. My hand started shaking. I was on borrowed time and surprised I hadn't been caught yet. I could leave now and not get caught but I'd get killed. Is my life really worth a necklace? Voices sounded below me and fear gave me the courage to walk into the room. Little did I know, that one decision, changed my entire life.
