"Guys." I said getting everyone's attention. "We all lost someone yesterday. We all loved him so much. Dad had a great life, he was always surrounded by friends and family. Even though he didn't know how to cope with being a single parent he was a great dad. I don't want everyone to be sad. I don't want people to cry. I'm so sick of crying!" I paused looking at Billie "I just want to y'know be positive and stop being so sad all of the time."
"I get it kid. I locked my self in my room when my dad passed." He said chuckling slightly. I smiled.
"So tomorrow at the funeral, I just want good and funny stories from back in the day. It's just going to us there because everyone else is dead but it'll be good." I said half joking.
Tré looked at me with sorrow in his eyes. He said nothing this whole time he was here. Just looking and taking things in. "Man this feels like a dream. Where did the time go?" He quietly said just above a whisper.
"I know, it's crazy." Jakob said.
"It's like we all live just to die at the end." Mike said.
"But we have to make the best of what we have, y'know." Billie said.
Silence.
No crying.
Everyone was still.
I looked around everyone had a serious thinking face on, but after a while Adrienne quietly said, "I'm going to start dinner."
"Can I help?" I asked watching her get up from her seat. "Sure" she said with a smile.
"You should put on a movie in the living room." I whispered to Joey. "Why?" He said clueless. "To make things less tense, tré will probably go with you." I got up from my chair and followed Adrienne. I saw Joey get up from his chair and go into the living room. Not long after that I saw tré, being his curious self follow Joey.
I laughed quietly to myself, "what's so funny?" Mama Adrienne said. "Oh y'know just tré being himself." She looked at me weird then raised her eyebrows quickly and went back to what she was doing.
Jakob left the table and went down the hall. That left mike and Billie alone at the table.
"Here, cut this. Melt this and put this on this." Mama said Holding up French bread, mozzarella cheese, garlic salt and butter. I knew what she was making right when she said that.
I took all of the things out of her hands and began with the bread. I cut it at an angle, added the garlic salt to the butter and melted it, brushed the melted butter and garlic salt over the slices of bread and sprinkled the cheese over all of it. Then I got out a cookie sheet from the kitchen pantry and greased it with the leftover melted butter. After that I placed all the pieces of bread on the sheet and put it in the oven.
I watched mama Adrienne break in half spaghetti noodles and put them in boiling water. "Okay I think that's all I have for you baby. You can go now." She said noticing my boredom. "Alright mama." She smiled at the nickname I gave her as a kid.
I kissed her on the cheek and walked over to the living room to find Joey sleeping curled up in a ball under a blanket and Tré watching Despicable Me. Just usual things.
Chuckling I carefully sat down by Joey making him look up at me. He lifted the blanket signaling for me to move closer to him. I got under the blanket, and curled into his side as he laid on his back.
Tré couldn't stop laughing through the whole movie. Every scene he would throw his head back and laugh his heart out! Not only is he a 44 year old man but that's not the weirdest part; he's seen this move more than I have, and he still finds it funny!
