Today is my biological father's funeral. I told everyone not to dress up or in black just because that shit is lame, and I didn't feel like it. Tré got the idea, he's wearing black and white printed pants and a neon green button down shirt paired with converse. For me, I'm wearing Jakob's old navy blue The Doors band t-shirt, tucked into black skinny jeans paired with old ratty converse.

I went across the hall to get to the bathroom. Joey was sitting on the counter by the sink in his boxers, brushing his teeth while checking social media. I got my toothbrush out from the cabinet behind the mirror, put toothpaste on it and ran it under warm water and began to brush my teeth. Joey didn't look up from his phone once but said, "You ready for today?" There was a bit of skepticism in his voice.

I put on my best brave face and replied, "As ready as I'll ever be". He finally looked up and said, "It's okay to be sad Y'know." He spit out the contents of his mouth. I did the same. "I know" I paused looking at his messy hair. "Is it okay if I sleep with you tonight?" I asked. "Anytime baby." He winked, kissed me and left the small bathroom.

I walked into Jakob's room to find him still asleep. It's no surprise, everyone in this family wakes up when they naturally wake up. No alarm clocks or anything. Oddly enough, Billie and Adrienne are usually the first ones wake.

I walked over to his bed, he was lightly snoring and I knew he wasn't getting up anytime soon.

"Jakey, wake up we have..."I paused trying to avoid the word funeral. "...plans today." I said lightly shaking him. Nothing worked. By this point I was basically yelling quietly for 5 minutes trying to wake him. "Ugh!!" I stormed out of the room a little frustrated.

"Joey I need your help." I said walking into his room. He was lying on his bed reading a comic book. "I can't get your brother awake and he needs to be ready really soon!" I said. "Did you try shaking him?" He asked calmly. "Yes I tried shaking him. Can you wake him up?"

"Me wake him up, hell no. Every time I wake him up he gets mad at me!" He said, a little aggressively standing up.

"Joseph Marciano Armstrong. Go wake up your brother!" He opened his mouth to say something but before he could Billie walked in. "What's with all of the yelling? You two never fight." Billie stood in the middle trying to separate us.

"I can't wake up Jakob and Joey won't help me" I said loudly. "Oh that's no big deal, I'll wake him up." He began to walk out but stopped at the door. "You too stop yelling at each other over stupid shit. I don't like to see you fight. So kiss and make up!" He left the room.

"Ugh fine." I said. "Ugh fine." Joey mocked. We kissed and hugged like Dad told us to. "I don't like fighting either." Joey said as we hugged. "Yeah me too." I said letting go.

"You guys okay now?" Mama Adrienne said in the door way. We both nodded.

She went to her room and I walked through the hallway and downstairs getting breakfast. Mike and Tré were watching the news in the kitchen. Man it's like they never leave.

"Hey kid." Mike said as I poured my cereal. "Morning" I greeted. "Baby look at this!" Tré said sticking his spoon to his nose, making me laugh. "Even on a day like this you still make me laugh." A bit of seriousness in my voice. "That's good! I'm going to need it today." Tré's face dropped. "Y'know it's okay to be sad sometimes baby." He said looking at me seriously from across the kitchen table.

"Yeah that's what they're telling me." I said.

Billie, Joey, Jakob and Adrienne walked into the room from the stairs one by one, all looking for food. Billie joe walked over to me and kissed my cheek "hi baby" he said. "Good morning" I said back to him.
