I Meet The Only Peaceful Titan And Giant
As soon as Percy disappeared, the pain was gone. Just like that. I didn't have time to try to figure out why. Beckendorf tumbled into the room a second later.
"Normally, I wouldn't go against Percy's orders. But I know you, and I know what will happen if you aren't down there fighting." He reached out a hand towards me and pulled me onto my feet.
"Good choice." The room faded and we found ourselves back in the Amazon's cabin. "Thanks." I looked around for my dagger.
"Percy hid it. But I got it before I came. Here you go." Beckendorf held out the hilt of my knife and I took it. "Let's go, we have some giants to kill."
We raced out of the cabin and Beckendorf ran off to help the campers against the monsters. I immediately headed for the giants. Gration met me first. The bane of Artemis. I saw Silena charging him as well and matched my pace with hers. She looked at me and nodded, "An immortal and a mortal."
Being Ananke, she was able to force Gration to do small things, such as punching himself and dropping his weapons. It was funny to watch, until he turned to me.
Gration bellowed and charged me, and I raised my dagger. When he was about a foot away I ducked and rolled, slashing his right heel simultaneously. Silena threw a small knife at the cut I had made and light burst from it. Gration groaned and he kneeled, bracing himself with his hands. He pushed himself up and sprang forward, his hands reaching for me.
I grabbed a fallen sword and tossed it at Gration's neck. Luckily, the sword stayed true and stuck in his throat. He roared in pain and yanked the sword out of his neck, golden ichor flowing from the wound. He lifted a hand to cup his throat, but a small silver metal glinted through the air and struck him.
He staggered backwards as more light poured out of the injury, and he fell to the ground, disintegrating as he did. One giant down, three more to go.
I looked for the other giants and saw Luke and Daedalus holding off Otis and Ephialtes. The banes of Dionysus. I joined them and helped Luke defeat Otis. When he was gone, Daedalus and I destroyed Ephialtes.
There was only one giant left. Mimas, the bane of Hephaestus. When I reached him, I noticed that Percy was already fighting him.
I grimaced, but nonetheless fought Mimas alongside him. I didn't have to talk to him though. So I kept my mouth shut. As usual, I dazed the giant while Percy stabbed him in the heel and killed him. I fell and he caught me while riding Blackjack.
"You're welcome." He spoke gruffly.
"Thanks." I said coldly. I understood why he had wanted me to stay out of the way. Throughout each fight jabs of pain assaulted me. I knew it was Gaea's way of warning me. I ignored it, hiding the pain.
For once the campers and Amazons handled the monsters on their own. When we landed, the ground was covered in monster dust. As soon as I was on solid ground I stalked away from Percy to help bring campers into the infirmary. Or, tried to.
Percy grabbed my arm and Camp Half-Blood disappeared. It was replaced by the top of the Empire State Building. The mortal one, I mean. Not Olympus.
"What do you want, Perseus?" I snarled.
He winced at the use of full name. "Why didn't you stay there? How did you get back?"
I walked away from him and looked out over the railing. "You know I wouldn't stay there while there was a fight going on. I'm not the 'Damsel in Distress.' I never will be. And Beckendorf helped me."
"Of course he did." Percy sighed. "Annabeth, you have to understand--"
"No, you have to understand!" I whipped around and poked his chest, yelling now. "I get that you don't want me to get hurt, but you have to understand that I can't just stand by and let you guys win this war without me. I have to help. It's not in my nature to selfishly sit back and watch this camp suffer. I won't do it." My voice softened. "I'm like you. You won't do nothing if you can help it."
He pulled me close. "I just don't want to lose you."
"I know."
"I promise you, I will find a way to break this curse. Gaea will pay." He lifted my head and captured my lips with his. "Let's go back." He took my hand and we flashed back to Camp. The sight that greeted us wasn't a normal one. Then again, being a demigod is never normal.
A Titan stood next to Thalia's tree, along with a giant. I didn't recognize either. The Titan looked like . . . a janitor. The giant seemed to be clad in snakeskin. I dismissed the weird outfits and raced towards them, my knife held in front of me.
With a yell, I launched myself at the Titan, my dagger outstretched. Arms wrapped themselves around my waist and pulled me off course. I growled and tried to push the person off of me, but their arms tightened. "Stop! Annabeth, stop. He's a friend." Percy was the one who stopped me.
I pushed myself up, breathing heavily and poised to fight the Titan. "Percy, that's a Titan! Iapetus, I think. Titan's aren't friends."
"This one is." Thalia pushed her way through the crowd, Nico right behind her.
"What? Why do all three of you say that?"
"It's complicated." Nico said. I glared at him and he continued. "Persephone brought the three of us down to the Underworld to retrieve a sword she was making for Hades, which had been stolen, before the Second Titan War. Ethan Nakamura had taken it with the help of Iapetus. Long story short, his memories were erased in the River Lethe and he was renamed Bob by Percy. He's our friend."
I lowered my dagger, but still not fully trusting. "What about the giant?"
"I actually have no idea." Percy walked forward. "He doesn't look like he's here to harm us. Let me talk to him, just no weapons yet."
"Be careful." I cautioned.
He nodded and stood in front of the giant. "Who are you? Why are you here?"
"I am Damasen. Bob found me and brought me here. We are here to assist you against Gaea." Damasen held his hands in the air to show he wasn't hiding any weapons.
I couldn't stop myself. "But you're a giant! You should be helping Gaea, not us!"
"Is that what you would like me to do?" He raised an eyebrow. I was speechless. "Perhaps you would like to know why?" I nodded.
"I am the giant born to oppose Ares. So, naturally, I am peaceful. My mother was ashamed and banished me to Tartarus, until Bob found me."
"Swear on the River Styx that you are here to help us." I demanded.
"I swear on the River Styx that I am here to help you fight against Gaea."
"Fine."
Tammy burst through the crowd and reached me. "Two giants, nothing else. Just them. At the bottom of the hill."
"Who are they?" I readied my dagger.
"Otus and Hippolytus. The giants born to oppose Apollo and Hermes."
