These corridors looked like they'd been decorated in the 1980s, I thought to myself as I approached the onboard restaurant. I expected Ben to already be there because he had always been an early bird, but instead I saw Sam and Rach sat at a table by one of the huge circular windows.
"Hey Hal! How was your night?" Sam asked enthusiastically whilst delicately intertwining his hand with Rachel's.
"Our bookings got mixed up, we got a double room instead of a twin, but it didn't really matter. So, what happened with you two whilst we were gone?" I asked them both.
"We went to the bar, had a few, and then went to bed ourselves." Sam replied, his adorable smile lit up his face, he looked like an ecstatic puppy, waiting for his dinner.
"Rachhhh", he moaned, dragging the 'h'. "Can we please please please just tell them already? I can't keep it a secret any longer!"
"No! We need to wait until the rest of the guys arrive, then we'll tell everyone. Okay?" Rach replied to Sam, the excitement disappeared from his eyes, but it was soon flooded back when he saw the Alex, Ben and Kev emerge from the corridor.
"PLEASEEEEE!" Sam squealed, I'd never seen him so exited in his life! Rachel calmed him down and whispered a few words into his ear - not quite loud enough got me to hear. Whatever this secret was, we were going to have to wait.
"What happened with you two last night then, having to share a bed and all" Rachel asked inquisitively, she winked as a cheeky smile spread across her face.
"We just shared a bed, that's all" I informed them both.
"Okay then, if you say so!" Sam said sarcastically. Rachel and Sam looked at each other and giggled, like two little school girls. Just as they'd finish smirking, Alex walked towards us, he wore a blue denim shirt, that I bought him for his 23rd birthday, and a pair of black skinny jeans. He had his glasses and a pair of cherry red Converse on. He sat next me to me and beckoned the waitress over.
"So, what are we having?" He asked as he thoroughly read the menu.
"Can I have a cup of tea and two slices of brown toast please?" I politely asked the waitress.
"Me too please", Rachel added sweetly.
"Can I have a full English breakfast please?" Kev asked as the waitress quickly scribbled down my order.
"Same here please", Sam and Ben added.
"Me too please", Alex said. As soon as the waitress was out of sight, Sam, Ben and Kev directed their focus to Alex.
"So, how was your sleep?" Kev asked cheekily.
"It was really good thanks", Alex replied, he looked over and smiled at me. His warm smile illuminated both is and my face.
*5 hours later*
The ferry docked at Belfast ferry port. We all grabbed our luggage and headed out of the ferry to be reunited with Alex's red Mini Cooper.
After the immense struggle of trying to fit 6 people into a Mini Cooper was over, we set off into the night. Only one thing was on our minds at that point in time: the sheer excitement of being able to sleep in our own beds. We all shared a house in Bangor, it was huge, 8 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a huge kitchen and an equally enormous living room. After a twenty minute drive we pulled into the pebbled drive of the band house. We were home. We all practically fell out of Alex's car, grabbed our luggage and sprinted to the front door like a bunch of giddy school children. Rummaging through her bag Rachel found her keys and unlocked the door ahead. I was greeted by the same warm, musky smell that I had said goodbye too all those weeks ago. It was good to be home.
