Chapter 16

"Kenzi, are you sure?"

"Of course I'm sure, Sam! They're my kids, I can't leave them with the Cullens forever." I said as I grabbed the keys and dragged Seth out with me. Joshua had left only a short time ago and Sam was hesitant to let me go get the twins while I was 'emotional.' Fuck emotions, fuck everything.

"At least let Seth drive, I don't trust that you'll be careful right now." Sam argued.

I rolled my eyes and muttered a 'fine' before tossing the keys to Seth. I threw open the passenger side door before slamming it shut, almost making it come off of the car.

"You good?" Seth carefully asked as he started the car.

"Just perfect." Sarcasm dripping off of each word.

I heard Seth sigh before beginning to drive in the direction of the Cullens'. I knew that he wasn't going to say anything else, fearing that I'd explode any minute. He wasn't wrong, he knew me all too well and the last thing that I'd want to do is hurt him.

I took in a deep breath before breaking the silence, "Seth...I'm sorry."

"Don't be, you haven't done anything. Unless you're apologizing for the bruise that you left on my arm when you dragged me outside...that I can forgive you for. I almost forgot how powerful your grip is." Seth rubbed the area where a bruise was barely visible as he told me this.

"It's called a death grip for a reason." I eased up on my anger, trying to diminish it entirely before I picked up the twins.

"So you admit it, you were trying to kill me. I knew it! I told them all but they wouldn't believe me!" I couldn't help but laugh at how dramatic Seth was being.

"Oh stop being such a drama queen. We both know that I would just severely hurt you, there's nothing wrong with that."

"Nothing wrong?! I should kick you out of this car and leave while I'm still alive."

"Psh, whatever." I playfully rolled my eyes as we pulled up to the Cullens' house.

We were greeted by Carlisle as soon as we walked up the front steps and were followed inside. Rose and Alice were playing with the twins in the middle of the living room while Jasper watched them with a smile on his face. Jake and Ness were on the couch watching tv along with Emmett while Bella and Edward were sitting by the piano.

As soon as I caught Violet's eye, she tore away from Rose and ran up to me. "Mommy! Mommy!" Her small hands reached up towards me and I picked her up.

"Hey, sweetheart. Were you a good girl while mommy was gone?" She gave me a simple yes before I gave her a kiss on the forehead.

"They're absolutely wonderful, Kenzi. You never told me about their abilities." Carlisle mentioned. "Violet's ability to control light and Cole darkness, it's amazing. It's like they're two halves of a whole."

"Isn't it? We had a theory, well, Demetri did, that Violet's ability was a representation of me while Cole got the darkness from," I hesitated before finishing my sentence, "his dad."

"It appears so, it's absolutely magnificent."

"Thanks, Carlisle." I tried my best to give him a genuine smile but found it faltering at the thought of Alec.

Jasper, sensing my mood change, immediately began to manipulate my emotions, making me happier. I looked up to where he was standing and concentrating on me, "Jasper...not cool." He just gave me a sly smile before going back to what he was doing, knowing that he had made me happier.

"Kenzi," Edward's voice captured my attention, "there's someone here to see you."

I looked up at him and he motioned towards the front door. My heart skipped a beat as soon as I saw who was standing at the edge of the forest. My daughter was taken from my arms before I ran full speed outside and was met halfway by Alec. I threw my arms around him and he easily picked me up. I entangled my hands in his hair and held him as close to me as possible.

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." I told him, his cold arms feeling like home.

"I am too, I never should have left, not without you telling me what happened."

"I'll explain everything once we get home." I told him before he put me down and we both went to pickup the twins.

Thankfully, Seth had managed to put Violet to sleep while Rose did the same with Cole. She handed him to Alec before we all bid our goodbyes and got into Seth's car. The ride home was quiet but not uncomfortable, the only sound being some music playing softly in the car. As we arrived to my house, I gave Seth a hug goodbye before I watched him leave. I took my sleeping daughter to her crib where Alec had already placed Cole. Seth had told me that Sam was on patrol tonight so I wasn't expecting him to be home. Emily greeted us as soon as we got home and told me that she had made lunch earlier and would heat some up for me. I thanked her and took my food back to my room where Alec was waiting.

"So...about Tate," I hesitantly started out. "Paul invited him over one time and that's how we met. Of course Sam wouldn't let us date, he wouldn't even let guys look at me, my overprotective brother at his finest. But that didn't stop us, we met up several times after that, Sam didn't know and I never planned on telling him. I'll be honest when I tell you that I was head over heels in love with him, or at least I thought I was." I looked up at Alec and saw that he looked uncomfortable as I told him this. "Don't get too uncomfortable yet, I haven't even gotten to the best part." I joked, which made him lighten up a little bit...just a little. "He convinced me that I was special, that we were meant to be together. Crazy, right? Well I believed him at the time and he wasted no time in telling me that in order to stay together I had to 'give myself to him.'" I scoffed at the memory before continuing my story. "I was only about 15 years old, he was around 17 so of course I believed him, and so it began. I did what he wanted all of the time, he always manipulated me into thinking that I owed him that much. He told me that my body belonged to him, he treated me like an object and eventually I cut him off. I didn't want that anymore and I don't think that I would've done that if it wasn't for Seth. He explained to me that it was wrong and he helped me end whatever we had. It wasn't even a relationship, Tate was never one for labels. Anyway, when he came back I was...I don't know...shocked? Surprised? I was nervous that he would try to revive what we had because I didn't think I'd be able to stay away from him, and that's exactly what he tried to do, only it was my bio dad that put him up to it. He can't stand the thought of us being together so he tried to find a way to break us up using Tate." I saw Alec's expression go from uncomfortable to angry.

"If that lowlife thinks that he could ever take you away from me, he's wrong." Alec told me while pulling me closer to him. "You're mine, and only mine."

"I love you." I leaned closer to him and gave him a soft kiss.

"You know that I love you more." He rested his forehead on mine and placed his hand on my cheek.

"I beg to differ..." I gave him another kiss before hearing the familiar shouting that meant that the guys were on their way back for food. "Let's go, the wolves are back." Alec chuckled and we both left my room to go join the guys outside.

However, as soon as we did, Tate caught my eye. "Ready to start over, princess?" A cocky smirk spread across his lips but it quickly turned into a frown as soon as he saw what happened next.

In the blink of an eye, Alec had him pushed up against a tree with his hands on Tate's neck. Tate desperately clawed at Alec's hands as he was beginning to run out of air.

"If you ever do so much as look in her direction, I will personally make sure to tear you apart, limb by limb." Alec threatened him.

I was snapped out of my daze and quickly made my way over towards him. "Alec, stop, please."

"I should kill you for what you did to her." Alec dropped him onto the ground, leaving Tate gasping for air. "But I won't, for her. Now leave."

Tate wasted no time in getting up and running in the opposite direction, still clutching the area where Alec had left hand prints. The guys all stood by the house, frozen. Except for Seth, he came up to Alec and gave him a bro hug. They were the only two people who knew exactly what Tate had done, and I had both of them to thank for everything that they have done for me.
