back together again

"What were his exact words?" Niall asked the weekend after Louis and Harry had a small argument over their future together, more specifically never having children.

Harry had successfully ignored Louis all week long, not even glancing in his direction. He hadn't answered calls or texts because he wanted time to think. He wanted time to think about what exactly he was doing with Louis because if Louis didn't see a future with him at all, then what was the point of being with him? Louis had asked about marriage before and seemed to want a future with Harry, but now suddenly he was changing his mind?

"That our future was unforeseeable. He listed all these things that could've happened to us and basically said that the future is too unpredictable to even try to think about." Harry replied as he glanced over at Niall who was putting together some type of project while sitting at his desk.

"He has a fair point, I think." Niall said and then glanced at Harry. "But I agree that he should at least try and think about your future together. At the very least he could humor you... try to think about what his life would be with you and without you."

"He doesn't want kids, Ni." Harry said softly and then looked down at his hands which were lying on his stomach. "That's what he told me. That he doesn't want kids."

"Really?" Niall asked after a few short seconds of silence and then looked over at Harry again. "Kind of a deal breaker, isn't it? For you, I mean."

"I mean... not necessarily. I love Louis so much. You of all people know that." Harry said, his eyes drifting back over to the boy. "I want kids. He doesn't. What do I do? What am I supposed to do?"

"Talk about it. Compromise maybe? Although with Louis, there isn't much compromising honestly so I don't know how much luck you'll have there." Niall chuckled and then apologized softly for it afterward.

"Compromise? As in... talk about it, get what I want shot down, and then we... settle on getting a dog?" Harry asked and then sat up in Niall's bed. "I don't want a dog instead of a child. I want a child. A baby."

"I know." Niall said and then let out a soft sigh. "Louis is bad at communicating... get him to communicate. Get him to talk about why exactly he doesn't want kids and try not to get mad at him for his answers. I know with Louis it's really hard not to get mad at him, but you're going to have to try, Harry." Niall said softly and then picked up a marker. "And you're going to have to start talking to Louis again. You can't just ignore him forever and expect him to want kids all of a sudden because you haven't talked to him in five days."

"I'm going to stop ignoring him soon." Harry sighed softly and then looked over at his best friend. "This is the longest I've gone without talking to him since... we first started talking, you know?" Harry asked softly. "I mean, I don't know if we're together or apart or... what's going on." He said and then shook his head.

"Look, in an odd way, I'm sort of glad that you've been able to ignore him. I mean... maybe you two just need some time apart." Niall said honestly with a small shrug of his shoulders. "I know you're upset and all and really, I hate that more than anyone, but you two spend too much time together. Maybe that's why you get into these arguments."

"No, we get into these arguments because Louis doesn't give a shit about my feelings. Not because we... spend too much time together." Harry shook his head. "It's like... he can never just say what I want to hear, you know? I get that he's being honest and whatever, but... sometimes I wish he'd be a little less honest and just tell me what I want to hear."
