Chapter 1: Joining the Circus

I love the circus I have since I was a little girl, but an accident when I was younger ruined my dream of being in one until now.

An old friend of mine had asked me if I knew anyone who could make her a dress for her performance, so I asked her what she wanted. Then I learned all of the designer's were busy, but I didn't want to let her down. I ended up spending a week making her the perfect costume and now I was on my way to deliver it.

"Kyriea. How are you?" Belia asked running up to me swooping me into a hug.

"I'm good Belia. I have the costume in the car," I smiled at her.

"Thank goodness. Our costume designer quit, and we are still searching for a new one. The others had costumes that fitted them and our story, so we are all glad you have contacts in Paris," she told me relieved.

"Don't thank me yet. You guys might not like the costume," I told her grimly.

"Come with me. You can unveil it for everyone, and see what they think as well," she told ms steering me towards the big tent they preformed in.

Inside was what I had been dreaming of forever, but could never have. People were juggling, animals were being trained, trapeze artists were practicing, clowns were clowning around, and then there were people doing tricks off of special trampolines made for circus performances. It was breath takingly beautiful.

"Everyone this is my friend Kyriea she brought my new costume," she called out.

"Really Lia? Have you seen it yet?" a little girl asked jumping off the trampoline.

"No she's going to reveal it to everyone now," she answered smiling.

Everyone came over and surrounded us. Waiting for me to unveil the costume, so I carefully took it out of it's protective covering. Revealing the gold and red halter neck dress, with black sequins surrounding a cut out heart where the neck strings connected to. Peoples eyes went wide and everyone was quiet around us. I should have known they hated it, but all of the other designers were to busy to make a circus costume. I started to turn away.

"It's beautiful," Lia whispered awe filling her voice.

"I agree where did you get it little lady, we'd pay good money for a designer like that?" a guy about my age with hair as black as an abyss, and eyes as deep as the moon pools, he was quite hot and reminded me of someone.

"Yeah Kyriea. Now that I think of it you never told me who you asked to make it? How much is it any way?"

"It's free," I said quietly.

"What designer would give away a master piece like this," a familiar man asked walking in and then stopping when he saw me. "Valeria," he whispered.

"I'm sorry boss man, this is my friend Kyriea not Valeria," Lia chastised him.

"Sorry lil one. So who made the dress?"

"I did," I mumbled quietly.

"What did you say K?"

"I made the dress. It's free because it was something you asked of me, you never ask for anything," I explained.

"You made it!?"

"Yes I just said that," I teased her.

"Young lady how would you like to join the circus and become our new costume designer," Prain asked.

"I'd love to Prain," I smiled he looked at me weirdly. I then remembered he never told me his name.

"K...?" Lia began.

"Lia you know how I love the circus I've been following this one since you joined it a couple years ago," I lied.

That's how I became part of the circus. I just hope no one finds out the truth.

Prain's Sons POV

That girl Kyriea it startled me when dad called her Valeria. Why did he have to say her name when I was just getting getting over her death. Valeria had been a child protégé within the circus. Give her any act and she could preform it perfectly. She's also the only one I had ever known to master the Angel Flight, and that's an act done by only one person on the flying trapeze.

We used to train together although I didn't start in shows until after Valeria had died. Her death was my fault the power had gone out in the building we had been using for a public performance, and my dad gave me a big candle and asked me to find Valeria. I ended up dropping the candle right by the curtains which instantly caught on fire. I searched for Valeria after pulling a fire alarm the fire getting worse as i searched.

Valeria was trapped on the stage a flaming board had fell just before her and the roof was about to collapse on her. I had almost reached her, but a firefighter stopped me and forced me away. He couldn't see Valeria, and I couldn't speak from all the smoke in my lungs. I tried to fight him and get him to save her, but it was too late.

It was only when my dad screamed where was Valeria that the firefighter had realized I had been fighting for a reason. Her father was beside him screaming for his daughter, but it was to late the roof had already collapsed and the fire had spread.

Valeria died that night, and it was all my fault. After that I put my heart and soul into the Circus knowing that she had loved it. I preformed for her and when asked why I was so serious I would say that it was because of my childhood friend Angel Wing as everyone had called her.

Now dad was confusing an outsider with Valeria. If there was even a remote possibility she was alive she'd be performing in the Circus. She would also have horrible burn marks on her. The girl I saw was a beauty. Long Ocean Red hair with flecks of gold, and eyes the color of midnight with a hint of a rainbow. She looked like Valeria, but she was more graceful, V having been clumsy when she wasn't performing, and she seemed reserved and modest, something V never was. There wasn't even a possibility that Kyriea was Valeria. None at all plus the girl looked like she was terrified of performing.
