Prologue
"Be careful," the man warned, handing the young child to the pack's eldest member, who happened to be his grandfather.
The grandfather held the child carefully. "This child is special," he announced.
"Of course she is, Dad." the man said. He squeezed his wife and mate's hand, and she smiled.
"Your arrogance is not needed, Alpha." the grandfather said. The sleeping child was so small, he could fit her in one wrinkled hand. Yet, though premature, the child would live.
A vision came upon the grandfather, as he was a Seer as well as a werewolf. He saw great bloodshed, and this child, being killed in the midst of it. The child herself was different...and he couldn't figure out how.
No, he thought. Not my granddaughter.
So the grandfather said, "Son, you must give up the baby."
His son and his mate looked at the grandfather in shock. "Not my baby!" the mate said.
"A vision has come upon me. I foresaw that, unless the child is raised unknowingly to the wolf realm, she shall die before she turns eighteen." the grandfather said. "She must be raised as a human."
"I can't leave the pack!" the Alpha protested. "What will they do? I have no sons."
"No, you will stay here. I will mask the child's scent, though she will need it renewed every four years. And as for her first shift...let's hope it doesn't come until after she turns eighteen." the grandfather said.
"That's unheard of! Your first shift comes around puberty!" the mate protested.
"I cannot make her not have the shift." The grandfather said carefully. "But I may be able to put a bind on her wolf. Temporarily. It will only last until she reached a certain age."
"Will she be safe?" the Alpha asked.
The grandfather nodded. "Let's hope her wolf is not too rebellious. You must inform the human caretakers of the signs that the bind is breaking. If she starts to eat more, or is prone to outbursts of emotion or gets stronger in any way, then the bond is weakening, and, depending on her age, will need to be strengthened."
The parents complied immediately, finding some old human friends to take care of the girl.
As it turns out, the child's wolf was very rebellious, and the binding had to be strengthened four times before the child turned six. The fifth time, however, the wolf inside decided it was tired, and would wait awhile before trying to break out.
The child was seven.
Ten years sounded like a nice break...

Sorry if it's weird, I've never written a werewolf novel before. I just randomly made her grandfather a magical werewolf. Yes, it's my story, I CAN do that.
