Chapter Four
Xavier
(Couldn't resist mwahahaha)
My car was not where I usually left it.
"Flora," I growled. "She will pay."
I stalked to the garage, where she usually parked it after taking my prize possesion for a joyride.
There my car was, unharmed, sitting in the garage.
I will find you. I mind-linked her. And I will kill you.
She didn't reply.
I barged into the house, running up the stairs to her room.
There was more than one voice in there. Another werewolf. A female. She smelled like tropic fruit, exotic and different and--
Whoa, buddy, calm your jets. I reminded myself.
"Did you drive my--" I stopped as I stepped into the doorway.
Flora was on her bed, her red hair wild, a hairbrush at her lips, and she was singing off key to some song, and a girl was looking at her.
The girl...she was beautiful. She had long light-brown hair that trailed down to her stomach. She was wearing a white tank top, and had on a red belt, bracelet, and sunglasses.
She was singing. It was gorgeous.
The wolf inside of me said, Mate. That is our mate.
Thanks, I got that.
Just checking.
Flora said, "Oh hell no."
I continued to stare at my mate's face.
"I'm so getting kicked out for this," she said, and she pushed me out the door as she said, "C'mon."
"What the hell?" I demanded. "That was my mate, let me go back inside."
"She doesn't know anything about werewolves!" Flora said. "She'll say your crazy!"
I gave her a look. "She's gotta be my age. Hasn't she shifted?" I asked.
She shook her head, "From what I can tell, someone bound her wolf."
"Bound her wolf?"
Don't get any ideas about me, my wolf said.
Flora nodded. "But I can feel her conflict. It's quite odd. She'll retreat into herself, kind of like when we're mind-linking, and then she'll snap out of it. I think her wolf is breaking free."
"So what you're saying is that my mate doesn't know she's a werewolf, she hasn't shifted, hasn't been marked, and everyone knows about her except herself." I ran my fingers through my hair. "You know how dangerous that is? Anyone--rogues even-- could come up and--"
"We're telling her. At the party. She should come, and we should tell her before she shifts for the first time." Flora suggested.
"What's her name?" I asked.
Flora smiled. "Chelsea Carter, but everyone calls her Carter."
"That's Chelsea Carter? The Chelsea Carter my beta keeps talking about?" I asked. Grant wouldn't shut up about her. He'd better stop now.
Flora nodded. "They're in a band together. And you're not alpha yet, mister."
"Fine, a week, yes, don't remind me. Dad's been putting pressure on me all week. 'I don't have to step down if you don't want,'"
