It's early September, just days before school starts. It's about time for the weather to turn cold, for the trees to start loosing there leaves and the jack-o-lanterns to come out of hiding. All though summer is not over yet and the folks of Hartsville Tennessee are well aware of that. The weather is still sweltering enough to use the AC system in the houses and cars. My name is Skylar Hardwick, I'm 17, I have silky long blond hair and light blue eyes that resemble the ocean. I was born and raised just outside of the big city of Nashville Tennessee in a small and forgotten town called Hartsville. I live with my Mom Dad and twin brothers. My dad lived in Hartsville his whole life and loves everything about the country. Mom on the other hand, was born in New York and moved to Tennessee during the summer before her sophomore year of high school. My parents met for the first time that summer and have been together ever since. They married right out of high school and a year later mom got pregnant with me. When I was born mom and dad swore I would be an only child and I was...until the year I turned 10 and mom realized I was growing up. 9 months later mom got way more then she even bargained for, the twins were born. Now Coal and Jacob are 5 and now I'm stuck sharing a bathroom with the devils spawn.

School is just around the corner and I'm surprisingly anxious to go back. It has been a long summer full of friends and family and now I'm ready to settle down and start my senior year.

"Can you believe senior year is already here?" Clair exclaims as soon as she opens the passenger side door. Clair and I have been friends since grade school. We were always inseparable. "It feels like we should still be freshman." She blurts out before I even have time to get a word in. Clair always had a tendency to talk way too much without even realizing it. Sit there and let her babble on about god knows what as my thoughts start to wonder again. I can't help but think about finally being on my own after this year. My plan is to get out of Tennessee and go somewhere up north, most likely New York. Mom always talks about how great the city is with all the lights and different buildings. Dads not too happy with my choice to leave Tennessee he thinks the city is over rated and dangerous. It always causes a constant fight in our house, I argue with Dad about living in New York and Mom gets mad when dad has something bad to say about the city. Those conversations lead to quite awkward dinners and me escaping to my room afterwards.

When we pull up to the school I feel a sudden burst déjà vu, Clair's right. It feels like the first day of freshman year. When we get out of the car I catch sight of my other best friend David. The only secret I have ever kept from Clair is that me and David have been secretly dating since sophomore year. I feel like if she knew this she would just feel like a third wheel and I didn't want to jeopardize our friendship.Clair,David, and I have been friends since freshman year when Clair and I were too scared to brave the lunch room by ourselves; luckily David was in our lunch and the class before that. Offered to help us since his brother graduated from here and he apparently knew everything there is to know about the High school cafeteria. "Hey David" I said as he walked up to us. He gave me a warm smile before greeting both of us." What's up ladies?" he exclaimed as he playfully punched my shoulder and hugged us both. "Ready for senior year?" He asked while still looking at me. It was obvious that Clair didn't recognize what was going on because he blurted out. "Of course I was born ready" David and I have done a really good job with keeping this from her. We walked into school with me and Clair on either side of David. David gently held my fingers so that no one would notice. We walked up to our lockers which are ironically right in a row. Some how David managed to her our lockers near Each other but he won't tell us how he did it, Clair and I think he bribed the principle to get his locker changed. When I opened my locker David came up behind me and slipped a note in while Clair turned to greet her friends from the drama club. I quickly read the note and stuffed it in my pocket. I glanced over and he winked at me making my heart skip a best. The bell for first period rang so the three of us made our way down the hall. David nudged my arm "we'll catch up with you later" I called out to Clair and she shot me a quick wave and walked away. I turned around to find that David has vanished. "David?" suddenly I yelped as someone pulls me into the janitors closet. "Jesus Christ! You scared me!" I exclaimed. The janitors closet was dark and smelled of wet mops and mildew, not the most romantic place but it would work for now. I can barely see him with the bad lighting but I can feel his big arms wrap around me then I feel his lips lightly brush mine. The kiss starts to get deeper and suddenly my hands are in his hair and his hands go up the back of my shirt. As always pulse quickens and my palms get sweaty. When we finally break apart our breathing is heavy and it feels like we have been kissing for hours, but it's only been 5 seconds. "We are going to be late" I say into the darkness. He groans "I know but I don't want to let you go yet." I laugh. "I'm free after school and my parents won't be home. We'll have the house to ourselves for a few hours." The thought of being alone with David makes my stomach do flips. "It's a date. I'll come over as soon as I drop off Clair." I reach up and kiss his cheek before I step out into the light again. As of right now I'm not thinking about what class I'm missing, right now my minds running a few hours ahead of schedule.
