My parents death didn't really hit me until the next week, and when it hit it hit hard. I never really paid much attention to the world, considering the world never really noticed me. I mean why would it, right? I mean I'm just a normal person, i'm not famous or anything. The 18 year old shut out. I always wear black, just as i am right now; black Three Days Grace t-shirt, black jeans, and my black high top converse.
As you can see, i've never really cared much for color, even though i admire sunsets and sunrises. My mom would always say that "The sky was a canvas, and that we could paint our own sunset." I always loved hearing her say that because i always took it to heart. When I told my art teacher, everyone had already heard it before i could take it back. I was in 6th grade and i'm in 11th now but still nobody will let me forget it. People normally only talked to me when they want something or when they want to be jerks which most of the time that's exactly what it was. I only had one best friend.
Her name was Carlee; we became best friends in kindergarten. You could literally tell this girl anything and she wouldn't judge you. Carlee was one of those people that liked to express herself through art and nature. She was always dragging me to either an art store or the woods.
Carlee's mom had died of leukemia when she was eight, and her father was in the Army, so she stayed with my family and me. We were like sisters, and for awhile people actually thought we were. When people would ask we always said
"Well duh can't you see the resemblance?"
Even though Carlee's hair was curly blonde and she had sea blue eyes and I with my chocolate brown waves and hazel eyes, but it never hurt to mess with people's minds.
I will never forget how my mom always got mad at us when we did that, but we couldn't help it, it was so much fun. Mom would never admit it but Carlee and I both knew that under that serious tone of hers was a laugh, waiting to burst out, and sure enough it did. We must have laughed for thirty minutes straight because before we knew it, it was six o'clock.
On the way home, Carlee and I were talking about her mom and how much she missed her, and how she was afraid she was going to lose all the memories with her mom. I couldn't help but feel bad for Carlee, but the. of course she starts shaking her head and says
"Turn up the music!"
In that moment, everything was perfect u till one day where all the fun and laughter stopped. About two weeks after my mom and dads death, Carlee started acting different at home and at school. She wouldn't talk to anyone.
One day at school, Carlee was 15 minutes late to every class. When i saw her come in, she didn't shoot that silly smirk my way. She just went and sat down looking out the window. She glanced at me once then quickly turned away. Then I saw it, the stain. It was coming through her grey long sleeve shirt. It looked like someone had gotten a red sharpie, and drew on her wrist except, this was not red ink, this was blood, her blood. After the bell rang, i jumped out of my seat.
"Carlee!"
"Oh, hey!"
"Let me see your arm."
"What are you talking about?" She darted turning away but before she could, i grabbed her arm and pulled her sleeve up. I gasped.
"Oh my god!" I put my hand over my mouth.
I'll never forget that look on her face when I saw her arm. She was sad, and she started to cry. I was terrified, and shocked. I wasn't expecting this to happen again and I didn't know what to say.
"Carlee, we promised this wasn't going to happen again."
"I know i'm sorry it's just, everything is falling apart! I can't stop thinking about my mom and your parents. I can't sleep at night, and i'm always depressed and NOBODY CARES!!"
"I DO Carlee! I always have and always will! But i can't be there if you don't let me. I pulled her close to me and hugged her. She accepted the hug but i knew this wouldn't be the last time she did this. i knew what she was going through and i hated it, and i hated myself for not being there for her.
Carlee and I went through a really bad experience. When Carlee was a freshman she got together with a junior named Josh Collins, they dated for four months. Josh was a really sweet guy at first. He took her out on dates and bought her this really cute necklace but all of that changed one night. Carlee and Josh were at a party and Carlee had been drinking a lot. So josh decided to take advantage of this. Josh and Carlee went up to a bedroom and started making out. When Josh started to working his way down Carlee told him to stop but he just kept going. Carlee tried to get up and Josh pinned her down and raped her. Carlee hasn't been the same since.
