Why Even Try?

A Little Car Journey..

Chapter 1: New Family

Mia sat in her car with her earphones in, and was listening to Holiday by Green Day. She loved that song. Mia was an old school kind of girl. She loved mostly old music. movies, and all that jazz.

 "Mia!", her brother screamed while smacking her earphones out her ear.

"What?!" she replied. 

"Mom's trying to talk to you.!" he whispered back.

"What is it?" she said. 

" Excuse me? Watch that attitude young lady!" her "mom" said. 

"Well why don't you try moving away from you home" she said under her breath

" What?! never mind. We' ll be arriving in ten hours ok?" her mom said while smirking. Mia just nodded back. 

Mia and her two brothers were adopted and were moving to Florida. Her oldest brother, Tony, was a junior and she was a sophomore, just one year apart. Her youngest brother, Max, never talked and was in sixth grade.

She brushed Max's hair as he laid on her lap. She raised the volume up while the song Absolutely by Nine Days was playing. Her brother smiled as the song played. Mia put one of the earphones in his ear so he could listen with her.

He never really was asleep on car trips.Just pretended to that he wouldn't have to help unload. At least that's how she remembered it. See her parents put them up for adoption a couple years ago. They weren't so young that they couldn't remember them, it was just a touchy subject and the pain was still fresh.

After just watching the trees,houses, and cities go by for three hours, she fell asleep while Max was still listening to music.  When she woke up, she noticed her earbud was still in her ear and listened to the song for a litlle bit before realizing what song was playing. It was Gives You Hell by all American Rejects. Then she looked out the window and saw they had stopped at a small little shop. She got Max to get off her lap and they both left the car. She walked out and went to the restroom in the small shop.

When she came back she saw Tony was getting in the car and sat down. "Mia you sit in the middle."

She just nodded.

" I need to talk to you ok" he whispered to her.He made sure Molly, their adopted mom was asleep before going back to the conversation. 

"Yes mother what is it that you want?" Mia said sarcastically.

"This is the last family we might have ok? Jack said one more compliant and we're done. No family wants to take us. We'll be on to the streets! So can you please just behave?"

She nodded and said,  " I'm sorry, I'll be nice"

He smiled. She leaned her head on his shoulder with Max laying down on her lap. After a while, Tony and Max had fallen asleep. Mia was still away, even when Molly woke up. 

"Oh Charles look!" Molly took a picture of them and Mia flinched.

Max woke up, then Tony. "Hey buddy" Charles said while looking into the reaview mirror. Max just looked at him with the face that said "Don't call me that!"

Charles just laughed. After another two hours of watching life pass her eyes, Mia fell asleep again.

" Mia wake up!"

She woke up and saw that they were in a town. She looked at Tony with murderous eyes. "We're here!" Tony exclaimed.  

Max slapped Tony's arm and shook his head. Tony realized that Mia was looking at him with murderous eyes so he just said, "Sorry." She smiled and waited till she got out the car.  

Once entering the house and analyzing everything in, she heard Molly say, "Ok Mia your room is to the left once you walk up the stairs. Max your room is across from Mia's and Tony, your room is all the way down the hall."

She nodded and walked up stairs and into her room. Once again she analyzed her room before saying "Nice"

She unpacked and changed into dark skinny jeans and a tee that said, "F*ck all them Haters." A gift from her thoughtful brother, Max. She walked back downstairs and saw Molly looking at her shirt in disgust before saying, 

"Oh really that shirt? We have guest coming soon. Can't you wear something more decent? 

" Well all the clothes you got me, is somewhere in the boexes the moving van is taking out" Molly just rolled her eyes. 

She walked into the living room and saw two people sitting down . " Hi! It's nice to meet you. I'm Mia. 

The lady just gave her a glare and looked at her shirt in disgust. Seriously what is wrong with this tee?! "Hello. I see you all have Molly's dark brown hair."

Mia looked at Max who's head was down. He had black shaggy hair and bangs. Tony's was short and dark brown. Mia's hair was up to her mid back and dark/light brown that had natrual streaks of red hair that shined in the sun. Molly trying to hid her disgust like as if these three were kids.

Molly said, "No they are adopted."

The lady just looked at her in pity and said "Sorry."

"It's fine."

"Yeah, its not her fault our parents left us." Mia said while walking away. 

Max followed and slapped Mia who yelled an "Ouch!" He put up three fingers and put down one and waited for her to say something.

"Um.... strike one?"

He nodded.  "Sorry! You know when you get to high school, you should join their mime club, if they have one." He just smiled. They wallked into her room and saw a guy. Max eyes widened. Mia was turned around and when she turned around to see what was the commotion, she saw a guy looking at her sketch book. How dare he! "

"OH HELL NO! WHO ARE YOU AND WHY ARE YOU TOUCHING MY STUFF?" Tony and her 'parents' rushed up the stairs with the guests trailing behind.  "What is going on up here?" Molly said, before realizing the boy had touched Mia's most prized possession.

"Oh that's Luke." the lady said. 

Max slowly walked into her room and laid down on her bed.

Mia walked in also and grabbed the book from his hands before saying,"Don't touch what isn't yours."

"Sorry, I saw it open, and got curious" Luke said while smiling sheepishly. She just asked everyone besides Max to leave her room. Luckily they obliged. 

She turned on the radio and the song Beauty and a Beat came on. Max and Mia just started dancing like crazy. Tony knocked on the door  and said , before leaving, "Hey, turn that shit off!"

Mia just smiled, and said "Fine."

She smiled and just lowered the music.  

Then she heard another knock and said, "Come in!"

She turned around and saw it was Luke. 

He was blushing and said, "Hey. I'm Luke. I'm sorry about the book. I didn't know you cared about it a lot." 

Mia just studied him for a little bit before saying, "Oh it's okay. " He just nodded.  

"Well I heard that your into old school music and bands. I have a bunch of CD's at home. Do you want to come over and listen to some tomorrow? 

She smiled and replied, "What kind of old bands?" 

"I guess you'll just have to find out tomorrow."

She smirked and said "Ok." He just nodded and left. Max still on her bed watching them have their conversation. Mia jumped on the bed and laid down right next to Max and looked at him. Max started making kissy faces and Mia just told him to shut it. He just smiled. After a while Mia and Max just fell asleep, with Mia holding him against her protectively.
