Sophie Turner.
I can feel the blush paint my cheeks as I stutter at Caleb. His smile is warm and beckoning me to him. Tingles explode on my lips as he gently kisses me. I relish in the fact that someone so wonderful and hot is mine forever. He pulls away looking down into my eyes, "Am I going to fast for you? It's just that... I never thought I'd find you and I'm really happy I did."
I smile up at him and shake my head, "Tonight has been absolutely perfect Alp- Caleb."
He smiles back then releases my wrists gesturing for me to open the door.I begin to pack the essentials, letting my mind wander back to the party when my father called Caleb the cruelest alpha of all the packs.
He doesn't seem cruel to me.
'But what if he's just a good actor?' The dark part of my brain whispered.
The thought startled me. They both didn't rival each other in this aspect at all. Caleb, similar to my father, could be putting up a very good front around others, and when no one's watching, guiltlessly become a monster. I trembled at the thought, making me visibly slow down. The Dark pack liked to keep to themselves— any outsider who knew too much wound up dead. I could very well be walking into something far more dangerous than my own home.
I snuck a glance at Caleb who was staring into the distance with a blank expression. I recognized the look instantly as it resembled the look my father gave when he was speaking through the pack link. I watched his expression change, becoming angry and his eyes darkened. I felt my heart pound in my chest as he changed from the kind man I thought I knew into a scary one whom I was no longer comfortable being alone with.
Maybe my father was right.
My blood ran cold and my heart seemed to stop a moment. Caleb seemed to be catching onto the mate link quickly and lifted his head when he sensed my fear.
"What is it love?" The callousness that had flickered in his expression was quickly replaced with worry.
I blinked wondering if I had only imagined it.
Had living with my father for so long made me paranoid?
I put the thoughts of fear aside and searched his eyes wishing that they would tell me the answers I desired. His eyes seemed so kind but I knew all too well what could be lurking behind the mask. I blushed realizing he had been waiting for my answer, "Nothing I just thought I heard a noise from downstairs, but I suppose it was my imagination."
He nodded slightly while listening for any noise that I might have heard. I turned back to the small pile on my bed. The longer I stared at it the more they seemed unnecessary. Bringing anything from this prison seemed pointless. I shook my head and settled on a few dresses, some leggings with shirts to match— my favorite jeans, as well as most of my underwear and bras. I grabbed my favorite journal which had became my sort of saving grace in the past years, my phone charger, the polaroid camera Lilly had gotten me last year, and a few pictures of my friends and I to help me with the shock of not being around them much anymore.
The thought of leaving my friends almost halted my packing once again but I quickly found more reasons to leave than ones to stay. There was also no reason they couldn't visit me in my new home.
I started towards the bathroom to finish gathering the few items I may need when the sound of the front door being slammed shut stopped me in my tracks.
"Sophie?!" I heard my father's voice precede his loud footsteps coming up the stairs. My wide eyes turn to Caleb, seeing them reflected in those deep pools of blue rippling with anger. He emitted a low growl, "Come on let's get out of here Sophie, I'll buy you anything you don't manage to pack."
I nodded, too scared to use my voice. Before we could move a step across the floor, the door to my room flies open. Caleb growls loudly but my father launches himself towards me without warning. Moving faster than I thought possible Caleb puts himself between my father and I taking the blow for me. I can see him tense readying for a fight
My mouth finally whispers, "Please don't."
Caleb's head whips around and his once blue eyes are now pitch black with anger. His anger dissipates enough to shake himself awake, his apology effortlessly formed by his hand outstretched to catch mine in his. The turquoise blue that I have grown so accustomed to in the short time I've known him returns and his breath slows.
The pain in his eyes bled through to his voice, "He was going to hurt you." His voice got stronger as he continued, "You're part of my pack now and I will not tolerate anyone laying a finger on what's mine, not even a father."
I stare at his outstretched hand knowing that if I took it my life would change forever in that moment.
I look into his eyes wondering briefly what a future with him would hold.
You could be happy together.
But what about the darkness that was so predominant in his eyes just seconds ago?
