Mom was such a teenager sometimes.
It was an hour before my date with Grayson, and I was stressing out. I nearly cancelled, because I was so nervous.
"Let me help," Mom had said. She decided to do my makeup. She was acting as if she was going on this date herself.
"Just a bit of eyeshadow." She whispered to herself as she brushed a light tan across my eyelid.
"Crap." She looked through her makeup bag. "Where's my lipgloss?"
I pointed to the top cabinet where I put it last.
"Thanks." She applied the gloss to my lips, then spun my chair around so I could see the result.
"Mom." I admired the makeup in the mirror, and smiled. "How come you never became a makeup artist.
She chuckled. "Beverly, go get dressed honey."
I changed into the dress Jenna and I picked out, and gasped when I saw it in the mirror.
It was stunning, the way it flowed and twisted with every moment. I grinned, happily.
A few minutes later, after putting sandals on, I heard the door bell ring. My head dropped to the floor. I was so nervous.
"Hi ma'am, I'm Grayson." I heard the sincerity in his voice.
"Hello, Grayson." Mom sounded pleased. "I'm Beverly's mom, but you can call me Mary Margaret."
"Nice to meet you," Grayson said.
"Hey!" I smiled as I came into view from the doorway.
"Hey." Grayson grinned when he saw my outfit. "You look stunning."
"Thanks," I said. "You look nice yourself." I looked at his buttoned down shirt and jeans, which looked very put together.
"Should we get going?" Grayson asked.
"Of course." I kissed Mom on the cheek, and took Grayson's hand.
We got into the truck and Grayson immediately played country music.
"Country boy?" I smiled.
"I have southern roots," he said, winking.
"So what's the plan for the night?" I asked.
"I made a picnic and we're going to eat it by my favorite spot," Grayson said.
"Aw." I smiled, putting a hand to my chest. "That is so sweet."
"I try," he said. I laughed.
We got to Grayson's "favorite spot." It was a small lake, and when I followed Grayson through a clearing of trees, my eyes widened in shock. There was a large cushion in the grass with fluffy pillows and blankets. There was a picnic basket, and I saw it was filled with amazing food. There were fairy lights hanging off of the lattice fence that surrounded the cushion.
I pushed the gate of the fence open, a hand over my mouth. "Oh my god," I whispered. "Oh my god!" I said louder, a huge smile on my face.
"Do you like?" Grayson said, stepping into the enclosed area.
"It's absolutely stunning." I sat on the cushion, a smile still hanging on.
"I made a pretty basic southern dish," Grayson smiled. "White beans and honey baked ham."
I must've guffawed, because Grayson laughed at me.
"I promise it will be the most amazing food you've ever had," Grayson said. "Plus, there's fruit and bread in case you hate it."
