It's been almost two years since Scott and I broke up. He cheated on me at a party. My best friend Ariel stood by my side every day and night. I am completely over him now.
The thing is I have a secret that nobody knows. Not even my family or best friend knows. I'm about to tell her, I just hope she takes it okay.
"Ariel, there's something I have to tell you. I just hope this doesn't change anything between us."
"Of course not Holly. Nothing could ever change anything between us. We've been best friends since High School. You are like a sister to me."
I took a deep breath. I tried to stay calm, but nothing seemed to work. So instead I just came right out and said it.
"Ariel I'm gay."
"Wow, Holly, good for you. As long as you are happy with life, it doesn't matter who you like."
Wow, that made me feel so much better. I've been hiding it for two years now. I'm so glad my best friend accepts me for who I am.
"How did you find out you were gay? If you don't mind my asking."
"No, I don't mind Ariel. Ummm, well actually it was after I kissed Rachel at the party. I couldn't stop thinking about it for a whole year. It wasn't like kissing Scott, it was different. It made me feel better somehow."
I don't think Ariel knew what I meant. I'm not sure I even knew what I meant. I also told her how I've been looking at girls more recently than I have at guys. Don't get me wrong I still find guys attractive, but I don't know what it is I've just been looking at girls more.
I like how not all girls are the same, yet they are all beautiful in their way. I've noticed how all girls have different shapes and sizes. They all have different hairstyles that suit them. I've noticed how they walk, and I like watching them.
There was this one time I was in a Gas Station, waiting in line to buy some pop when I was staring at this girl's butt. It took me a while to even realize I was doing it. I kinda got embarrassed and worried about if she would catch what I would say. Luckily she didn't.
I told Ariel all of this and she was listening patiently until I got to the part about the Gas Station. Then she started laughing hysterically. I was trying to hold it back but couldn't when I also started laughing. We sat there for a good five minutes laughing at myself.
"Okay, we seriously have to get you a girlfriend," Ariel said.
"What!! No, no, no we can't do that!"
"Why not? You said it yourself you've been looking at girls lately and it hasn't worked between you and a guy for almost a year. Maybe that's a sign that you need to be with a girl."
"Ariel, it's not that simple you don't just walk out of the house and yell to the neighborhood 'Is there any lesbians like me out there?' It's much more complicated than that."
"Look I know that, but if you don't put yourself out there you'll never know what it's like. You never know you could be really happy with a girl."
"Ariel I know I have to put myself out there! I'm just scared too! You are the only person that knows my secret! Not even my family knows!"
"Oh okay... I'm just trying to help. You know one day your going to have to tell them right?"
She was right I know I have to tell them. I'm just afraid of how they are going to react. I felt bad for yelling at her. She was just trying to help after all.
"I'm sorry Ariel. I didn't mean to yell. I'm just stressed out about keeping it all in. I shouldn't have snapped."
"It's okay Holly I understand. I'm glad you told me though. Don't worry, your secrets are safe with me."
I was glad but still, a little stressed out. I told Ariel that I was going for a drive to clear my head.
I grabbed my keys and phone off of the coffee table and headed out the door to my Volkswagen beetle. I love my little car. I started up the engine and rode into town.
I was driving down the street when I decided to stop at my and Ariel's favorite restaurant, Burger King. I walked in and stood in line. It wasn't very long. I was listening to a song on the radio that was playing. I'm not sure what it was. I need to remember to look it up. I was about to when the most beautiful girl caught my eye.
She had long black hair. It was straight and down. Her skin was flawless and tan like I had never seen before. Her eyes were an emerald green. She was fit, she looked like she worked out.
She looked up at me and it seemed like we were the only two people in the world. She smiled and I saw her perfectly white teeth. She was saying something but I couldn't make it out.
"Hey move it or lose it, sister! Everyone else wants to eat too!" A grumpy old man yelled from behind me and that brought me out of my fantasy.
I hurried up to the counter where the beautiful girl was standing she was laughing a bit, but quickly stopped as she talked to me. May I just say her voice was music to my ears?
"May I take your order?"
I couldn't breathe. She was just so beautiful and the sound of her voice was the icing on the cake.
"Y... yeah I'll ha... ha... have two whopper Jr meals t... t... to go please."
She giggled, "What will you have to drink?"
"Sprites," I said very quickly so I wouldn't keep stuttering and making an even bigger fool of myself.
She laughed again and put everything into the computer. I slid the side and waited to feel very stupid for the way I was acting. It's not like she was gay or anything. She probably had a boyfriend.
My food came and I went to get the drinks. As I walked by the cash registers the dark-haired girl stopped me and gave me a napkin. I'm not sure why but I accepted it. I thanked her as I walked away.
I got back in my car and kicked myself for how I was acting. I couldn't believe I made a fool of myself to the first beautiful girl I have ever seen.
I looked at the napkin for no particular reason, and I noticed there was writing on it.
Hello there beautiful. You're very cute when you are nervous. I hope we can talk sometime. 😉
Scarlett Stellar #***-****OMG, she gave me her number!!! But even better she thinks I'm beautiful! I can't wait to get home and tell Ariel.
