Chapter III: A Grand Ball [Part 1]

Your eyes widened at his words. A ball? Already? You just got here today and there was already going to be a ball going on. You had no idea how to help with a ball, having never been to one.

"The ball will be held tomorrow so I need those invites asap!" Alois said while clapping his hands happily. You wanted to tell him that was a stupid idea, that people couldn't just drop any plans they had to suddenly come to this ball. But you held your tongue not wanting to deal with another one of his fits. You nodded duly as he continued to go on about how the ball would be a masqueraded theme, everyone wearing masks and beautiful outfits.

You started to find yourself becoming a bit...excited for the ball. Even if you would just be a servant there you would still get to enjoy it and see every ones outfits.

"Also Y/N, you know how to dance right?" He asked you while tilting his head curiously. He was almost cute like this, when he wasn't yelling.

"No I don't-"

"Well you have to learn! What if a guest asks you to dance, you can't refuse!" Before you could even finish your sentence he started his rambling. He went on about how you didn't know how to dance, saying a proper lady should.

'Well I'm not a lady'

You wanted to say that out loud so bad but you held your tongue. At this point you weren't worried about him kicking you out if Alois found out you were a boy. You were more worried he would get angry that you lied and do something worse.

"-Well you'll just have to come by the ball room after you've made the invites and ill teach you to waltz" He said, breaking you out of your thoughts. He was going to teach you to dance, in one day? That wouldn't be possible.

"Thank you master, I'll come right over after I'm done" The words left your mouth without you even thinking. He seemed to like the response though because he smiled brightly before telling you to get to it.

You left the room and sighed, today was going to be a long day.

After two hours you finally finished the invites, and they came out better than you thought. You had Hannah help you a bit since you had never done this either and with her it took less time. He was inviting so many people, you made at least one hundred invites.

"You better go see the young master now Y/N, he'll be expecting you" Hannah said as she put the last of the invitations into envelope to be mailed. Claude entered the room and took the stack of letters before leaving, you assumed to go send them out.

But how could they get to everyone in just a day?

I stood up, waving goodbye to Hannah before heading back to Alois's study. Besides his little outbursts, this place wasn't too bad. Though the butler would always glare at me Hannah seemed to like me and she was willing to keep my secret.

As I approached the study door I raised my hand to knock but the door suddenly flew open, revealing Alois who was smiling brightly at me. Was he waiting for me?

"There you are Y/N! Come in we need to start right away!" He said while tugging me into the room.

It hadn't even been ten minutes, but I could tell Alois was getting frustrated with me. I kept stepping on his feet, messing up the moves and not keeping in time with the music. He wasn't saying anything but stared at me, which worried me. Before I could apologize, he pulled me closer to him.

"Here" He said softly and started to guide me as we danced to the soft music playing. He continued to help me before he slowly let me control my own movements, but he still kept me close to him. I was getting the hang of it now, starting to move gracefully with him.

I smiled up at him and he stopped, going completely quiet as he stared at my smiling face.

"Thanks for helping me master" I said not noticing the light blush that dusted his cheeks when I spoke. He moved away from me and cleared his throat.

"Yes well your ready for the ball tomorrow, go help Hannah with the preparations now" He said and looked everywhere around the room except in my direction. I feared that I upset in him someway, so I nodded quickly and left the room to look for Hannah.

What I didn't notice was a certain someone glaring at me from the hallway.
