SistaGirlz Book #5
ANGELA
Pacing my bedroom floor, wearing only an oversized T-shirt, I attempted to process my emotions. I finally bedded Aaron Jones but that also meant that he cheated on my best friend, Rachael aka Baby Girl.
"I hope Aaron tells her soon because I don't feel right about this!"
Just then, the house phone rang, scaring the shit out of me. Checking the caller ID display, I saw that it was my girl Nikki. Relieved, I answered the call.
"What's up Nikki," I said as I put my panties back on.
"You all done with Aaron?" she asked.
"Done with him? Whatchu talkin' 'bout?!" I asked nervously, nearly dropping the phone out of my hand.
"Braiding his hair. What did you think I meant?!" Nikki laughed back.
"Oh! Well, we just talked while he was here. I didn't braid him up this time," I half-confessed.
"Aww damn! Everything OK with him and Baby Girl?" Nikki inquired.
Her nosy ass always trynna be up in everybody's business!
"I guess. We didn't talk about her too much," I admitted.
"Oh! So you were getting advice on what to do with your men? Or are you still trynna get with Aaron?" Nikki asked.
"Nikki, what did you call me about?" I said in an effort to change the subject.
"Oooooh GIRL!" Nikki exclaimed excitedly. "So, yeah! I saw your old boo with a new chick. Or did you know Darius is trynna get with Meeka?"
Laughing as I pulled off my T-shirt to put on a yellow sundress, I replied, "I'm the one that encouraged him to go after her!"
Knowing that I had deflated Nikki's gossip bubble, I smiled as I looked at my reflection in my full-length mirror.
"Well, he's going full force! Everybody knows he's with her and they think y'all broke up!" Nikki explained.
"Girl, you know everyone that doesn't know the truth is more likely to spread lies. Darius and I are still together," I stated confidently. "And when I'm not with him, I have Devin."
"Oh... Right..." Nikki said flatly. "Well... That's cool."
BEEP!!
"Hold on Nikki, let me see who's on the other line," I said in response to the call waiting notification buzzing in my ear.
"Go ahead and take the call. Just come over early so we can talk before the girls come over," Nikki offered.
"OK," I chirped before switching to the new call without checking the caller ID. "Hello?"
"Angela."
Chills crisscrossed through my body at the tone of her voice. Gathering all of my courage, I responded cheerfully, "Hey Rachael, what's up?"
"Are you OK?" she asked.
My heart raced at the question. Why was she asking about my welfare? Did Aaron already tell her?!
"I'm fine. Why do you ask?" I replied carefully.
"Aaron said you were too sick to braid his hair," Rachael stated.
Breathing a huge sigh of relief that Aaron didn't tell Rachael about us yet, I said, "I'm cramping."
It wasn't a lie since my stomach was in knots from this conversation.
"Oh, girl! Are you gonna be OK to go to Nikki's sleepover tonight?" she inquired.
"Definitely! Girl, it's been forever since we've seen you now that you're going to that ritzy private high school," I pointed out.
"I knooooow!" she exclaimed. "I've been talking Mama's ear off ever since I received Nicole's invitation. She threatened to leave me to live with you if I didn't shut up about it so I've been talking non-stop!"
My best friend and I laughed at Rachael torturing her mother. Mrs. Wallace was like a second mother to me and she never hesitated to allow Rachael to spend time with me. As beautiful as Rachael was, I once considered her for a girlfriend but the closer we became, the more I saw her as a sister than a lover.
"Sis, we can't wait to see you!" I exclaimed as I ascended the stairs to the main level of the house just as my baby sister entered the kitchen.
"Is that Baby Girl?" Nina asked exuberantly.
Nodding my head, I listened to Rachael chatter on about her new house and school before her mother called for her.
"I gotta go but I'll see y'all tonight!" Rachael cheered.
"YAY!!" I cheered in response. "See you tonight!"
I looked over at my sister only to find her intently staring at me.
"Can I help you?" I inquired as I prepared to make myself a buttery grilled cheddar cheese sandwich.
"I guess Aaron hasn't stopped over here yet," Nina said as she opened the refrigerator to retrieve a can of soda before sitting at the kitchen table.
"And you said that to say what?" I asked without looking back.
"You usually have his braids hooked up by early Saturday afternoon so he can be fresh to death when he's chillin' with his boys at the basketball court," Nina smirked. "I just saw him over at Darius' house with his hair in a ponytail!"
"He didn't want me to braid him up today. You have a problem with that?!" I snapped as I whirled around to face my sister.
A moment of silence passed before Nina's eyes grew wide open.
"You fucked him!"
Immediately, my jaw dropped before quickly closing.
"Mother would slap you for such language, dear Little Sister," I chuckled before returning to grilling my sandwich, adding a pat of butter to the skillet.
Crossing the room to stand beside me, Nina grimaced. "You have your post-coitus glow like after your dates with Devin or Darius so I assumed..."
"And you know what they say about those that make assumptions," I giggled, attempting to hide my relief at not being found out. "Why don't you ask questions before jumping to assumptions and conclusions? Did you know that exercising also causes that glow?"
"Fucking sounds like a great exercise when you're home alone," Nina chuckled as she pinched a corner off my sandwich before leaving me speechless as she walked back into the living room with her soda.
