ANGELA

It's a good thing I have two boyfriends or else I wouldn't know what to do with my spare time! Between getting to know Devin better and helping Darius with his jealousy issues while keeping my grades up at school, I was burning the candle at both ends, trying to light it in the middle!

"Let's see what's on the agenda for today," I said as I checked myself out in my full length bathroom mirror. "Devin is spending the day with his parents and Darius has a date with TaMeeka. I guess I'll see if Rachael can hang out with me."

Dressing myself in a magenta top under my Guess overalls, I clicked my left strap and rolled up my right pant leg before walking upstairs to the main level of the house.

"Hey Pooh!" Nina smiled from the kitchen table.

"Hey Piglet!" I grinned back at my baby sister.

"Your boyfriend is in the living room," Nina giggled as she poured herself a box of frosted flakes cereal with almond milk.

"What?!" I looked at my sister before she nodded her head in the direction of the living room.

"How long has he been here?" I asked, looking at my phone to see if I had any missed calls prior to Darius' unexpected visit.

"Not very long. I was just about to come and get you," Nina explained in between bites of cereal.

Chuckling, I said, "Yeah, right after you had breakfast."

"And coffee. You know my day doesn't start without the right balance of sugar and caffeine!" Nina laughed back.

Shaking my head at my younger sibling, I sauntered toward the living room. To my surprise, I found my father introducing himself to Darius.

"Good day, daughter," Father said as he kissed me on the top of my head. "I was just getting acquainted with your young gentleman caller. Darius, was it?"

"Yes, sir!" Darius said as he stretched his hand out to shake my father's hand.

Grinning, my father said, "I'll leave you two alone to chat. Nice meeting you, Darius."

"You, too, Mr. DeVille!" Darius said as my father exited the living room. Once we were alone, my boyfriend quickly kissed me. "Can we talk? Alone?" Darius implored before I could say "Hello."

The look on Darius' face vexed me. Immediately, I took Darius' hand to lead him toward the kitchen, rushing past Nina with a mouthful of flakes. Once we were alone in my play place, I turned to my boyfriend. "Everything OK Baby?"

"No... I need to tell you something." Darius took my hands into his as he led me to the sofa. "TaMeeka and I had sex last night."

Assuming they used protection, I wasn't concerned about Darius' activity. It was his demeanor that had me on edge.

"She said she was so glad she gave her virginity up to a man that loves only her!" Darius exclaimed.

"Why does she think you love only her, Darius?" I inquired, feeling my body tense up. "I don't expect you to tell her about Devin but she knows you and I are still together, right?"

"Yeah Babe, of course she knows!" Darius snapped, prompting me to ask...

"And she's ok with you dating her and me?" When Darius' head dropped, I was disappointed. "Baby, why are you having sex with her if she's not consenting to our arrangement? You're going to hurt her by lying to her!"

"I know! I know! I fucked up but I love her!" Darius announced.

Wow! He's never told me he loves me... yet...

"That's great, Baby," I said, feeling a slight twinge of jealousy.

"And when she said that, I realized..." Darius kissed me softly on the lips. "I love you, too, Angie. And Devin! I love all three of y'all and I wish I could be with all of y'all but..."

"But what, Baby? I asked, having an idea of what the "but" was.

"TaMeeka already wouldn't date me because I'm with you. She'll definitely dump me if she finds out about me and Devin!" Darius broke down into tears.

Taking my boyfriend into my arms, I said, "You don't have to figure this out alone, Baby. Let me call Devin over and the three of us can figure out how to salvage your polycule."

Sitting up, Darius looked at me in confusion. "Polycule?"

Giggling, I replied, "That's your poly family, or an easier way to group your romantic relationships. But you are screwing yours up royally, Baby! You can't keep lying to us!"

"Lying?!" Darius exclaimed as he stood up. "I didn't lie to you! Or Devin! Just..."

Looking up at my boyfriend, I smirked. "Exactly. And lying to one of us is lying to all of us. TaMeeka needs to know the truth, Darius."

"Before I talk to TaMeeka, I need to confess to Devin," Darius admitted. "Like you said, lying to TaMeeka is lying to him, too. You know the truth.  He needs to hear it, too."

"Call him over if you like," I offered. "He's spending time with his parents but I know he would love to hear from you!"

As the pivotal female in our triad, I was privy to the feelings and emotions that my boyfriends felt for each other. So much so that I was their unintentional relationship counselor.

"Devin and I miss you," I admitted. "We haven't all hung out together since my last poly party and even then, you weren't with US. You were either with me or Devin. You don't have to split your time between us."

Looking sheepish, Darius pouted. "I'm still getting used to all of this, Angie. I mean, dating you is normal because you're a girl. Hell, dating Devin might be ok someday but dating the both of you at the same time?! Where they do that at?!"

Frowning, I looked up at my boyfriend. "What are you trying to say, Darius?"

"I think I need to break up with Devin and concentrate on you and TaMeeka. I don't care if anyone calls me names but I'll kill anyone that hurts Devin!" Darius declared.

Feeling tears well up in my eyes, I snapped, "You're gonna break up with Devin?! Why?!"

"I... I'm not ready to be gay in public and you know how I like to be out in the streets," Darius replied as he stood up.

Shaking my head in growing anger, I said, "If you want to break Devin's heart, I don't want to witness the break-up. Don't bring him over here just to hurt him!" Looking at my boyfriend in disbelief, I inquired, "Are you breaking up with Devin just to be with TaMeeka?"

Whirling to face me, Darius exploded, "Of course! Like I said, she won't date me if she finds out about me and Devin. I love her, Angie!"

That time, it felt like a heated knife thrust into my heart!

"I heard you the first time," I replied, trying to hold back my disappointment.

Crossing the room to take me into his arms, Darius kissed me. "Baby, I love you, too. I didn't know how much until I realized I love all of you!"

Snatching myself out of Darius' embrace, I said, "And yet, you want to break Devin’s heart because you want to be with TaMeeka. That's not how polyamory works, Darius. You don't have to hurt anyone to be with other people. Just tell everyone the truth!"

Stepping back, Darius shook his head. "She won't understand! She'll hate me and never talk to me again!"

Crossing my arms under my chest, I stated, "You won't know until you find out! You're assuming you know what she'll say when you need to be transparent so she won't have any questions! Be honest with her!"

Glaring at me, Darius growled, "I've made up my mind, Angie! I want TaMeeka! I'm breaking up with Devin!"

Before I could say another word, Darius ran upstairs and out of my house. By the time I reached the main level of the house, he was halfway up the street headed toward Devin's house. Immediately, I called Devin. As expected, I went straight to voicemail.

"Baby, I love you and I'm here when you need me!"
