Running. Running is hard. Last time I ran this much, was in gym last April. Coach Hedge pushed me a little too far on the mile run and I threw up. Of course, the Coach didn't care. He made me get back up and finish.
Now he was pulling me along a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. Wind whips my strawberry blonde hair behind me. Trees surround us and it feels like it's closing in. It seemed to be bright for Midnight. The moon is shining high overhead. The night always put me on the edge.
I wish the sun was still out. The sunlight's rays comfort me with it's warmth. But it disappeared hours ago.
As we ran, I sung my favorite song in my head. Coach turned a corner and we began to run through trees. After a few minutes, the area cleared to reveal a clearing with a hill at the center. Coach stopped at the foot of the hill. I could see at the top was a shadow of a pine tree.
He turned to me and smiled, "We made it Cupcake!"
I hate night. But what I hate more is Coach Hedge calling me a Cupcake. I’m not a Cupcake, but I am in the mood for one now that he mentions it.
Out of breath, I ask “Where…Are…We?”
“CampHalf-Blood.”
“Half-Blood?”
“Nevermind that, Cupcake. Let’s just make it over the hill and you will see.”
Grudgingly, I follow. I couldn’t see much but a large cabin. The lights from the windows were on. I could tell that it was a big field. It seemed empty right now, but I bet when the sun came up, it would be full of people.
Hedge takes me to the other side of the hill and heads toward the cabin. Up close, I thought the walls looked blue. But I must’ve been imagining things because who would paint all of this blue? And why?
“Um, why are we here?”
Coach Hedge just glanced at me and went through the door. It looked so warm inside and I was so tired that I just followed him, ignoring the fact that this might kill me.
But I never realized how right I was.
