The bonfire was blazing purple.Campers were looking at me nervously. This must not happen often. A new camper arriving in the middle of the night without any notice? But they probably felt excited too, because the fire had sparks of red.And then it hit me. What would my mom think? She must be so worried. I know I shouldn't have left with my gym teacher 300 miles away from home. Or even left the school with him. But it's too late now. This is where I belong. They've welcomed me even though they don't even know me. I've been welcomed to this camp.
Chiron, the instructor of activities, who I met only earlier that morning, clopped forward on his hooves. That's right. Hooves. Chiron, our mentor, is a Centaur-Half man and half white mare.
"We have a new camper here." Announces Chiron. Everyone turned to me and I stood up acting proud and ready to learn. Even though I wasn't really ready or proud. "Please welcome Shamira Storrs" Everyone looked at me with deep interest. And I looked back with my hazel eyes. "Shamira is undetermined right now, but we hope she'll be claimed soon."
I understood what Chiron meant. He was talking about how Half-Bloods have one godly parent and one mortal parent. And no one knew who my father was.

I get up and rub my eyes. I always have that dream around this time of year. It was the night I was introduced to camp. And I know that the next night would be the night I have the dream of being claimed by my dad. It was one of my most embarrassing stories I remember.Apollo just barged in during my favorite campfire song and sang it with such beauty while strumming away on his Lyre. He strides over to the Hermes section and looked straight at me. Blood rushed to my cheeks as I just looked down at my shoes. But I could never forget how beautifully he sung the song. His voice never cracked. And he strummed his Lyre without any trouble.
I've been trying to sing that campfire ballad as well as he did. But I could never get it just right. He was just so good at it. I looked at the clock on the North wall. I couldn't believe I slept in. I jumped out of bed and ran to my clothes drawer. I cleaned up my bed and found my backpack that I set down last night at the foot of my bed. And I ran to the showers.
I thought about last night and what had happened. Processing it was still taking some time. But I finally started to understand. Will had heard about the quest and thought of me first. It was nice of him, but I have never lead a quest before.
I got back to the cabins just as Will was counting heads to go to breakfast. "Late, again, Shamira"
"I know. I'm sorry. I was thinking about what I'll be doing later today."
I could not eat breakfast any slower. I was dreading my visit with Rachel.Rachel is our Oracle of Delphi. She gives us prophecies right before we leave for quests. And it was my turn to visit her. I dragged my Converse shoes on the grass as I headed towards the purple curtain covered cave. I had never been in there before, and I have to admit, I was a little nervous.
Love will guide you to the hidden Moon
One shall face impending doom
One will hearken too soon
And one won't make it to the end of JuneDarkness shall fall like a sheet
To the end, two shall weep
The last will fall to the Dark
None will see the ending mark
