I left for the Big House. My stomach was churning. Who wouldn't make it to the end of June? Who would turn to the Dark? What Dark are they talking about? But I knew better than to worry too much about this.
Chiron had told me beforehand that prophecies can't be controlled. You have to let it happen without interference. And some things might not be what it seems.
When I got close to the Big House, I ran into Kylie. Kylie Feirce is my best friend. She is a daughter of Hephaestus, the god of Blacksmiths and Forgery. Her dark brown hair was pulled back, showing her deep brown eyes more clearly. Kylie had an orange camp tank top that complemented her caramel skin tone.
Kylie had made it to camp one year after me. She was claimed one week after showing up to camp. Right when we met we knew we would be BFFs.
She took one look at me and asked, "What's wrong?"
I wasn't even surprised she could read me like that. "I'll explain when we get inside the Big House." She nods and begins talking about boy trouble. Probably just to keep us distracted from the real issue.

Jacob walked in and sat down next to Kylie. I glanced over and noticed he was looking at her like the way he always did when she wasn't looking. He looked at her when she was looking down at her projects or when she turned to the other side to talk to someone else. And Kylie was oblivious to all of this. I've tried to encourage him to ask her out, but Jacob gets all flustered and starts stuttering. His cheeks turn red and he changes the subject.
As usual, he came late. It seems like the children of Hermes get distracted more easily than most Half-Bloods. You see, we demigods usually have ADHD or Dyslexia or both. It comes from the Ancient Greek side. The ADHD is for when you're in combat. You can find your surroundings in a blink of an eye, and know your opponent's next move before they strike. The Dyslexia is for reading Ancient Greek. We can't read English very well, because we're hardwired for Ancient Greek.
Chiron, Dionysus, Kylie and I had been waiting for 5 minutes, which seemed like a millenia for an ADHD kid like me. I could choose two companions to come along with me on this quest. So, of course, I chose Jacob and Kylie. They were my best friends. And I needed my two best friends.
They would help me with this quest. But after the prophecy, I was nervous for them to go on the quest. One of us won't make it to the end of the month. And I don't want it to be one of them.
They matter too much to me to let them die. If someone was to "Not make it," it should be me. But the rule is that there should be 3 on the quest. No more, no less.
I tell the prophecy to all of them. Kylie looks more queasy than I felt the first time. Jacob just had a face of shock. But I still told them. Chiron explained again that some things might not be what they seem. But this time, he just seemed to be reassuring himself.
