Tord sighed softly before walking into his new classroom, since he just moved to England from Norway, and obviously that meant a new school.
"Ah, yes. Thorfird, am I pronouncing that correctly?" the teacher smiles, Tord nods. "I go by Tord though," he mumbles. "Alright, well, do you mind the class asking you a few questions?"
He shakes his head 'no'. "They can ask me stuff," he mutters. "Class, we have a new student, you may ask him questions if you want."
One kid immediately puts her hand in the air, Tord awkwardly points to her. Blue eyes, blonde hair, a few faint freckles, a scar on her cheek, a black and red hoodie, jeans a boots. "Where are you from?"
"N-Norway," Tord smiles, scratching behind his head, another kid raises his hand in the air. "What's your power?" the ginger asks, his eyes are a stunning blue, freckles everywhere, a purple shirt, a grey jacket, and blue jeans.
"Oh. U-Um, I'm Telekinetic," he smiles a little more. "Looks like Todd won't be the only one anymore," one kid smiles, kicking his feet on the desk, his eyes are nonexistent, his arms covered in different band bracelets, an earring in his right ear, back checked converse and some band shirt Tord's never heard of. "So, when did you move here?" a kid with brown hair, almost covering his eyes, a few moles or rather beauty marks on his face and arms, a rolled up green hoodie, jeans and green tennis shoes.
"A-A month ago. I was learning English still."
"In a month?" another kid asks, green eyes, brown hair, olive skin, a purple hoodie with short sleeves, jeans and black tennis shoes. Tord was taking notes on how everyone looked, he had no idea why.
"No, I started taking it in, um, Norway, but not fluently yet," he nods. "Thomas! Feet off the desk! Now, Tord, thank you for sharing, take a seat next to Thomas, it's the one open seat," she smiles, Tord walks over to the seat, the girl from before sitting next to him on the other side.
"Name's Caitlin, just call be Cait though, I'm from Ireland," she whispers, a stereotypical Irish accent, "just sayin' I know what it's like to be the new kid, we can talk if you want, I like talking, like, a lot," she smiles, Tord nods, she sits in her seat with almost perfect posture, even though she doesn't look like one to do that.
"Okay," Tord mumbles.
The teacher starts teaching and half way through the lesson, the kid, Thomas, his head slams on the desk, shaking, and drooling slightly, one of his bracelets starts beeping, the kid right behind him, the one with the green jacket, quickly stands up running up to him. "Um, Mrs. Sandy, Tom's doing it again, I need to take him to the nurse!"
"I think he forgot to take his meds today, I think he said something about that on the bus," the ginger spoke up.
"Oh my, yes, please hurry."
The kid picks up Thomas, bridal style, and almost runs out the door, Tord knew immediately the kid had Hyper Speed, the kid didn't shut the door. The ginger ran after them, closing the door this time, before trying to get to the nurses office.
"That's what, the third time this week? It's Thursday," one kid blurts out. "It's not like he can help it," Cait rolls her eyes. "Um, what happened?" Tord barely says, hoping the girl will answer his question.
"Tom just gets these weird seizure things, I don't know if it's because of his power, or it's just a thing he has, but yeah," Cait shrugs. "Class, calm down. Thomas will be okay, we need to get back into the lesson," Mrs. Sandy started back with the lesson.
Tord kept wondering off about the poor kid. The ginger kid said forgetting to take his meds. Tord never forgot to take his, maybe that was just him. Telekinesis in kids and teens, even some adults, have pretty bad headaches. What kind of power would give a seizure? Tord went through all the powers he knew a lot of the kinesis powers gave headaches, and other things, some people with hyper speed go partially or completely deaf, hyper strength gave muscle pains, the cloners were often taking meds to control it, people who turned into monsters had anger issues and often were blind but could see in monster form, etc.. But nothing he knew of gave someone seizures. He kept trying to think of something. He thinks he's a smart kid, which he is, and there must me a way to help him. Back in Norway he was trying to find out how to help kids and teens who could talk to animals, only hear the voices when they want. Even if he ultimately failed, he tried.
The bell shook him out of his trance as all the kids went off into their next class. His next class, history. Oh boy, he knows nothing about this, thankfully it's world history.
"Thorfird-"
"I-I, um, just go by Tord, sorry," he nervously laughs. "Oh, of course," the teacher looks through the role. "Where's Tom and Matt?" he asks towards the class. "He's probably in the nurses' office again," one kid blurts out.
"Alright, now Tord, is that right?" when he got the nod from Tord, he continues, "you wouldn't mind having the class ask you a few questions?"
"They can ask away. Um, so, I'm Tord, and I'm from Norway, and I'm a Telekinetic," he say the last parts to the class. One of the boys from the last class, he thinks his name is Jack? If he heard the teacher right, green eyes, brown hair, olive skin, all that. "Since you have Telekinesis, can you pick up Water like Hydrokinesis, or Earth like Gerokinesis, or Fire like Pyrokinesis or Air like Areokinesis?"
"Well, I'll never have the ability to make fire, but control it, maybe, and no for Air. Um, as of now, I can do Earth, sorta Water, and Fire not at all," he rubs his arm weakly.
"What do your parents have?" one girl asks, Tord notes her purple eyes. Great, a mind controller, that was fun. "My dad has Telekinesis, and my mom, Toxikinesis," he mutters, he was never proud of having criminal parents. He hopes no one knows them.
He takes a seat and the teacher starts teaching. Tord starts to dig his nails into his wrist, he did that whenever he feels anxious, said something he didn't mean, did something he didn't mean, etc.. He thinks to himself about he never should have said anything about his mom. People are going to start hating him. He may not have social anxiety, but he does get anxious about things like that.
The class starts, he tries to take the notes the best he can. He might be able to speak English extremely well, but he still has trouble writing it.
The bell rang, and kids scurry to their next class. It was the same thing. He would introduce himself. Kids asked him questions about him, he'd answer, and they'd get into the lesson, Tord would stare off into space, the bell would ring, repeat.
Until lunch. Tord sat by himself, only to have Tom, and two other kids sat at the table with him. "Name's Matthew, or Matt, hi," the ginger smiles. "Um, hi," Tord mutters.
"Edd, and from what you heard, this is Tom," the one with the green jacket weakly smiles. Tord just mutters another hello, eating his food. "You don't have to sit with me," Tord glances at them.
"Don't you want some friends."
"I don't have time. Studying, training, and um, family time," Tord rolls his eyes, trying to not make it obvious, but stares at Tom. "You know it's impolite to stare? I notice these things okay? Will you-"
"Tom, calm down, we don't want you to get riled up again," Edd puts his hands on Tom's shoulders. "So I don't have have another fu*king seizure? Do you think I can control it? No! No I can't Edd?"
"Thomas!" Matt shouts, Tom just storms off into the bathroom, Matt runs after him, leaving Edd and Tord.
"If I may ask, how long has he had the seizures? You seem to be pretty helpful in them?" Tord cocks his head slightly. "According to his mum, since he was five months old. He has his medication but he doesn't take it. Since you have Telekinesis, do you take meds?"
Tord nods.
"Do you always take them?"
"Yes, I don't forget, my headaches are way too bad to go off my meds," he looks down at the floor, muttering something. "He doesn't take his meds. When he does, he doesn't have the seizures as much, but when he doesn't take them, he's almost guaranteed to have one."
"Is it with his power, or is it just something he has?"
"Power, or at least I think. Just if you were wondering, I have hyper speed, Matt can make clones of himself, and Tom, he'll just have to explain it," Edd sighs as Tom walks in rubbing his temples, Matt behind him.
"Tom. You need to go to the nurse and take your meds," Edd raises an eyebrow. "I'm fine," he mutters back. "You have meds you take to help prevent the seizures you take in the morning, and ones you take after a certain about of time. That time is now. Go take it, now. You are going to go take it," Edd narrows his eyes, Tord stands up. "I need mine, so you can just come with me, or rather you take me, since I don't know where the nurses' office is," Tord shrugs.
"Fine," Tom stands up, and walks out, Tord runs after him. The first part of the walk was silent, Tord takes a deep breath in, and then exhales. "So, what's your power?" he cocks his head. "Um, two or three I think?"
"I thought people were only get one?"
"That's where the seizures come from, you're only supposed to have one, or correlative ones. At least that's what my mum says. Super Agility, Night Vision, and possibly the ability to turn into a monster? My dad could do that, so that's why it's on the list," he 'rolls' his eyes.
"Oh, I just have Telekinesis as I already said, I used to think I had it bad, my headaches and even going to a migraine," Tord nervously laughs.
"I think everyone thought whatever they had was bad. I used to have a horrible mumbling problem, and I was extremely quiet, Edd, being almost deaf in his right ear, I think he has 60% hearing loss, and 20% in his left ear, so he had a hard time even hearing me," Tom stops walking. "I think I saw a hearing aid in his right ear, does he have one?"
Tom only nods.
"You okay?" Tord puts his hand on Tom's shoulder. "N-No, it's fine. Yeah I'm okay, my dad just died around the time I meet Edd and Matt," Tom shakes it off, "let's just go take the stupid medication," he starts walking again.
"Why are you reluctant to take your meds? Don't you want to not have seizures?" Tord cocks his head. "They suck. Especially since Edd usually calls my mum, I just don't like taking my meds. I've tried different things, the piercing in my right ear was supposed to help. Don't your meds have side effects?"
"Depending on how late I take them, I can get drowsy, and my powers aren't as strong, but it's not that bad, why what side effects do you get?"
"It makes it harder for me to see, the rest of the stuff I can deal with. But if I can see as well, my agility and night vision gets worse, and I end up failing a test, quiz, or whatever in the powers class," Tom scratches his head, "I don't like seizures, I fu*king hate the fact I get them," he adds.
"Oh, yeah. When I was seven or eight, right when the headaches and migraines kicked in, I had some meds that gave my terrible stomach aches, I was super drowsy, and get this, I still got minor headaches. You can just switch meds," Tord nervously laughs.
"I know, I know. Just, I don't know why I'm even talking to you. The nurses office is up here," Tom opens the nurses door, still rubbing his temples. "Hello Ms. Blessing," Tom mumbles.
"Hello Thomas," she smiles. "Um, I'm supposed to get my medicine here as well," Tord scratches the back of his neck. "Name?"
"Thorfird Lokken," he weakly smiles. "Aw yes, let me get the medicine out of the cabinets," she opens the cabinets, without touching them, and takes the medicine out. She opens the first bottle, giving the pill to him. "Thank you," he mutters, taking the pill. "Do you need water?" she looks up at Tord as he shakes his head, she checks the bottle, to make sure it's his, and then opens it giving Tord the pill. He takes it, before glancing at the girl on the cot.
"I'm going back to lunch," Tom mutters walking out, Tord filled him. "How long have you been friends with Matt and Edd, that's their names right?"
"Since Year Four, I think," Tom mutters, putting his hands in his jean pockets. "Hmm," Tord puts his hand on his chin, Tom harshly grabs his wrist, holding it in a death grasp. "Look, I don't know what you're up to, are what my friends have to do with this, but you better shut your god damn mouth. I can read people better than you might think. Leave them alone, and don't do anything you will regret," he snarls. "Okay! Okay, just leave me be!"
Tom throws him off to the side, speed walking into the cafeteria. Tord just scoots over and sits against the wall. "What does he think I'm doing?" he mutters to himself, grabbing out his phone. He looks at the text from his mom, he read the Norwegian text to himself. 'Har du forårsaket noe uhell enn mitt lille gresskar(Have you caused an mischief yet my little pumpkin?)' he typed back 'Nei' which is no.
'Vel, kom igjen! Gjør det gøy du vet(Well, get on it! Make it fun you know)!' He reads it to himself. 'Ja, mamma,' he types before putting his phone back in his pockets.
He looks around. "The water fountain," he mumbles, putting his hand up, pulling out the pipe from it, making it spray on everything, he does the same thing to the one next to it. He weakly laughs, noticing a teacher walk by, he runs into the lunchroom, sitting down, Tom watches his every step.
"Why did Tom come in before you?"
"Um, it just took a little longer for my meds," Tord quickly glances at Tom. "Oh okay! Well, we're gonna sit with you, so, let's talk."
"Um, we can talk," Tord sits down. "Well, Tom, in the first class, one of your bracelets started beeping, why was that?"
"It starts beeping whenever I get a seizure, and how fast it beeps is how bad it is. My mum made start wearing it for the classes Matt or Edd aren't in," he shrugs at Tord.
"Hmm, well that answers my only question," Tord mutters, starting to eat, hearing an angry teacher storm into the lunchroom. "Which one of you rapscallions broke the fountains?!" her overly loud, booming voice yells over the cafeteria, everyone stop talking. "Well? Anyone gonna fess up?!"
Tord started to dig his nails into his palm, trying to look as normal as possible. "Fess up now! The consequences will be less dire!"
"Just get one of the janitors to fix it, don't scare the kids," another teacher on lunch duty suggests to the teacher. She storms off to get the janitors.
"You alright?" Edd looks at Tord's face. "Hmm? Hva? Oh! Yeah, I'm fine," Tord nods, smiling weakly.
"So, Tord, right? I need to ask you something," Edd puts on a serious face. "Umm, yeah?" Tord nods, awaiting for the seemingly important question. "Do you like cats?"
"Um, they're okay?"
"What do you mean they're okay? Cats are amazing!" Edd says almost if he was offended. "I've just never had one," he corrects himself, giving Edd a more acceptable answer.
"Are you seriously okay?" Matt cocks his head. "I'm fine! Seriously!" Tord smiles a more convincing smiles.
The three keep talking until lunch is over, time for the next class. One he conveniently had with Tom. Powers training, which Tord thought was a little stupid, why have a bunch of different types in one classroom?
"Tord, yes hello! Now, don't tell me your power, let me guess, it's a kinesis type," she looks over him, Tord nods. "Let me less, Toxikinesis?"
"No, just Telekinesis," he weakly smiles. "Oh! Of course, well, take a seat, we'll be practicing one by one, you don't have to today if you don't want to," she smiles softly as Tord takes a seat.
This teacher was something Tord's never seen before. Able to create an obstacle course set to someone's power, and destroy it and make another fast. It truly amazed Tord. Everyone would do okay, or at least in Tord's set of mind. His parents strictly trained him from the age of five. No fun. Just work.
"Tord, would you like a go?"
He shakes his head no. He didn't want to be a show off on his first day. "That's alright, Thomas, get up, you're going."
"It's not like I can do anything impressive," he stands up, walking to the pad, the teacher makes the obstacle course. Tom just went for it, he wasn't lying when he said he had Super Agility, he was basically a parkour master, in the dark. It actually impressed Tord, for such useless powers. His parents told him that as well.School went on, and it was finally the end of the day, Tord was using his Telekinesis to grab out the books and things from his locker, putting it in his bag. "Hey, want to come over to my house? We're having a meet up, I thought you might want to come?" Matt popped up, scaring Tord, his bag drops from the air.
"What's wrong with Edd?" Tord looks over to a sad/angry looking Edd.
"A kid with Technokinesis thought it would be funny to break Edd's hearing aid, which, it's not. I had to keep giving him my notes," Matt shrugs.
"Does he have an extra one?"
"I think so, but anyways! You want to come?"
"Can't, I have training to do when I get home, um, maybe this weekend?" Tord smiles weakly. "Alright! That's a. Nice plan, see you tomorrow." Matt smiled at Tord as he runs home.
"Matt, his mum is a Toxikinetic and his dad is a Telekinetic, he's from Norway? Last name Lokken? He's the kid of some wanted criminals. Do you not think he's going to do something?"
"Oh I know. One of my clones saw him break the fountain. And, I got his phone, in smarter than you think Tom."
"Seems so."
"What?" Edd looks up at their lips. "Nothing Edd. Let's just see if your mum has your old hearing aid and that it fits," Tom keeps his glass at Edd so he can read his lips, "alright?"
"I think she has it," Edd nods. "Ugg, why would someone think it's funny to break someone's hearing aid?" Edd's voice is slightly different, due to the fact he is having a harder time hearing himself.
"I don't know, but let's go to your house then Matt's. We all need to talk about something," Tom fiddles with his bracelets. "Let's go," they all start walking to Edd's house.Word count: 3344 words.
